5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loved it!
My daughter bought this with her own money. She love to create and her favorite art project is pottery. A kiln is out of the question for home, so this was just the right solution. She created many little pots and dishes and painted them for her family and friends. A great craft idea, little mess, lots of imagination.

I got the Crayola air dry clay for use with 8 and 9 year old girls. I was happy with it straight out of the box because it is very easy to work with. The girls made two different kinds of projects: smallish 'free form' where they could do whatever they wanted. There were some basket/pots, flat shapes, and figurines. This is a lot of clay for a little money. So far, we've made two handprint "plates" for family and friends, but there is plenty left over to make figurines, too. It took about 4 days for the handprints to fully dry. I had expected this to be the lightweight "air" clay, but that's not what it is-- it's heavy, and you need to add water to it to make it really moldable, but it works well and dries well, and you can paint it afterwards. Good for creative little ones.

My 6-year-old asked me to write this review. She loves this clay because it is easy to make things and they dry easily as well. She wants 10 pounds of the clay for her birthday.

my family loves this clay. it is such a breeze to dry, only taking a day or two, depending on the amount used. it is harder to work with than play dough though, requiring a bit of clay skill. my 6 year old, who does not care for having to roll with lots of pressure to shape it, thought it to be too much work. but i think it was a touch of being lazy :- ) .....i would not purchase for a first clay for kids, but rather let them use an easier dough, and then graduate to this after some practice on the softer varieties.
when properly rolled and manipulated (no cracks) it dries quite sturdy. my little one was not pleased at how hers fell apart and mine stayed together when dried, but that was not fault of the product, but lack of experience on my kid's part.
a great buy!

They also did a project where they made a skeleton/support out of crushed aluminum foil and then put a fairly thick clay 'skin' over it to make different kinds of animals, which they painted when they dried. This clay cracks when it dries. It doesn't matter if it is thick or thin, large or small, flat or in the round. And it is fragile. These were definitely handle-with-care projects when they were done. The aluminum skeleton helped hold on legs which had cracked all the way around. We were able to mend some pieces with tacky glue. The only plus, besides ease of use, was that it took the paint well. We used acrylic. Personally, I will be looking for an alternative next time I do sculpture with kids.

Hello, I ordered this clay specifically because it seemed to be 'purest' clay I could find. I.e. with no added chemicals. This clay is quite easy to work with, most any pottery technique can be used with it. The ONLY drawback is that the clay is very brittle until fully cured. I've made some fine pieces, and they will break easily. Patience is the key when working with this clay. I use a small fan to speed drying, and cure it about 1 foot from a furnace register. (heat isn't absolutly needed, but seems to speed the curing) This clay can also be painted with common watercolors. Tips: never saturate the clay.. work slowly, the watercolors will tend to soften the clay. Finally, I recommend this product because of Crayola's fine customer service. I needed the full ingredient list of this clay, and they E-Mailed it to me... Highly recommended overall!

I bought this mainly for customization of small figures and dolls as it's supposed to dry to a hard firm substance. It certainly dries, only into a mess of cracks and dust. No sooner did I hardly poke it when it crumbled apart. Good news is, since it's so cracked and breaks apart rather easily, I think I can salvage the toy I was trying to customize. Honestly, even if you're using this for your children to play with I don't think it'd be a good idea, I have a feeling they'd be upset when they found their sculpture falling to pieces.

I use the 25 lbs. crayola air dry clay in my class room, it is great to work with and mold, however when it dries it falls apart. My students create AMAZING pieces of art work, and when they touch them or try to paint them, they crumble or break. I WILL NOT be buying any more of this product.

Bought this for Christmas for my 11 year old daughter. Found her with her hands covered in white dried clay dust hours later as she enjoyed herself with the product. It gives her a very hands on outlet for her creative impulses which is always a plus!

Our 5 year old loves to play with this. Its a very nice texture. IT does dry well but if you connect smaller things together they tend to fall apart after died.
