I bought these for my 18-month-old son, thinking they would be a good introduction to coloring. It turns out that he was confused by the shape and had no interest at all in drawing with these. He spent a few minutes turning the bottom, which releases the crayon, and then he was done. I couldn't figure out how to get the crayon back in... crayons should not have moving parts and INSTRUCTIONS, in my mind! I got some standard jumbo crayons and it turns out that my son likes those much better and will spend several minutes scribbling on big paper. If you think about it, a toddler who is old enough to begin with crayons already has plenty of fine-motor experience-- picking up cheerios, doing puzzles, etc-- and doesn't need to be practicing the palm-grasp that these crayons are designed for. They are ready for, and need to be practicing, the more standard way of holding age-appropriate writing implements like fat crayons and paint brushes.

What is there to say, they're crayons.... They were easy for my 2 yr. old niece to handle, but she still colored on furniture :-)
