I bought this to use with my daughter's chalkboard, but it is only for use with paper. For paper it's a nice alternative to crayons, producing something between a crayon and an oil pastel (without the messiness of an oil pastel, something we parents of 2 year olds worry about). Just be aware that if you use it on a chalkboard, it will not erase. You'll need to scrub to remove it: I was able to get it off with Formula 409 and a good rubbing.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT GETTING THESE FOR YOUR CHALKBOARD! THEY ARE MEANT FOR PAPER PRODUCTS. THEY ARE SUPER OTHERWISE.

When I bought this for my son at Christmas I couldn't believe how small the pieces of chalk were and also didn't realize that the box contained only 12(my fault for assuming that the price MUST be for a larger quantity box). It was way too much money for what I got. NOT a good deal at all!!!

If you are buying these for a little one, pick up a Magic Eraser pad from your local grocery store, Walmart, or Target! Chalks stain carpeting just like permanent markers do! The only way I've managed to remove permanent marker and chalk stains from carpeting was with water and a Magic Eraser, plus lots of scrubbing. Drawing chalks are great for little ones, until they end up on the carpet or walls!!

I don't know how they did this, but mine was a much bigger pack. For the price above, I'd get it locally or skip.

I bought this for my 20-month-old, and I was unaware that the chalk stained. Go with sidewalk chalk.

Beware!!! I was searching for sidewalk chalk when this product came up, and I selected it. The picture is misleading, looking like a box of sidewalk chalk. When it came it was the small 'drawing' style chalk. The product was fine, and now, after looking closer I can see that it is clearly labeled as drawing chalk, but when searching for sidewalk chalk, it came up, and looking at the picture made it look like sidewalk chalk, so it is my fault I didn't read close enough, but it was not what I was looking for, and now I am out one Christmas gift for a child. If you want sidewalk chalk, this is small drawing chalk, don't get this!

This has been really great chalk, my granddaughter has had lots of fun on her chalk board with it as well as on the sidewalk. It doesn't break easy and that is by a 4 yr old using it. So I'm very pleased with it.

Kids love all the colors and they are bright and bold.
Just want to give a heads up though if the red chalk gets on your carpet it DOES NOT COME ALL THE WAY OUT.
It also stain a white shirt a little.
Great just watch out for red.
