Not what it used to be,

This review is from: Crayola Non-toxic Anti-Dust White Chalk. (One Box) (Toy)
I have used Crayola chalkboard chalk for years, along with several other brands. I have used all of the past types of Crayola chalkboard chalk - white Anti-Dust, white AN-DU-SEPTIC, yellow Sight-Saver, and mellow gold EZ-SYTE. In the past, I can confidently say Crayola chalk was the best. However, THE RECIPE HAS BEEN CHANGED. I tend to think it probably happened when Binney & Smith became no longer associated with Crayola. This new chalk that is being sold as the white AN-DU-SEPTIC is absolutely NOT the same white AN-DU-SEPTIC that Crayola used to manufacture. This new chalk is grainy, softer, and contains hard spots that scratch and damage the chalkboard writing surface. I don't know what they have done, but the chalk recipe has been changed, and this new stuff is nothing but chalkboard-damaging junk. It really is sad because what was once a great product has been turned into a third-rate product. Because of this, I have made a move to another brand and absolutely WILL NOT allow Crayola chalk to be used on my chalkboards. They are entirely too expensive to get damaged and scratched.

This chalk is specifically made for children's plastic blackboards, NOT real slate chalkboards...,

FYI to the many other reviewers who seem to be confused. This product is specifically formulated for the plastic blackboards made in children's easels and toys, NOT the old school chalk boards made from slate. It works perfectly fine when used for the correct purpose. My daughter has a Crayola easel and the instructions specifically say to use this anti-dust version so the plastic surface doesn't get scratched. If you are looking for chalk for the slate chalkboards, you'll need to go with a different brand.

I am an Algebra teacher and use this chalk daily only because the school supplies it. I am going to purchase my own chalk in the future. The chalk is not anti-dust. I need to clean the tray on my chalk board daily to remove the dust as it has become a problem getting on everything from my computer to my overhead projector. It even get in the lens of the overhead. This chalk is also only 5/16" in diameter instead of 3/8". This does not sound like a lot (1/16") but is enough so this chalk does not work with standard chalk holders. It is too narrow for them to grip it and the chalk pushes into the holders, which means you get chalk and dust all over your fingers and hands. A real pain when you touch any clothing, papers, etc.
