We uploaded a photo but, from what we can tell, this has no effect on the "cartoon" character that is created.

There are so many great things about this, but I think the ads were misleading. The ads make it look like you can take a picture of your child and poof, it's a cartoon. They do give you the option to do this, but it doesn't really work. That's not a big deal in my opinion, since they give you the option to mix and match parts yourself. It was similar to the creation of a Mii on the Nintendo Wii and I was able to come up with something that resembled my daughters. I actually think it is more fun to do that anyway. My whole family crowded around the computer and had fun mixing and matching parts until we had the best cartoon versions of everyone.

The main reason I only rated this 3 stars is the text. Call me crazy, but when I here the word "storybook" I assume there will be some text involved. That is not the case here. The program generated some lovely Disney Princess pictures with the cartoon version of my daughters... and no words. There was a little space for text at the bottom so I thought it was a glitch. I wrote to Crayola and they informed me that they do not have the licensing to put text on any Disney pages. Spiderman is the only one of the 3 currently offered story studio packages that has any text.

Older kids might have fun making up their own story to go along with the pictures, but my kids are pretty young. I probably would not have purchased this if I'd realized there would be no text. I thought of maybe making up some text myself but I think it would be a real difficulty to come up with a plausible reason my kids would just be randomly standing around while the princess goes about her business. "The adventures of Jaina, the creepy stalker kid!" is the best I could do.

I did find some generic stories on their website and I loved those.

In the commercials and on the packaging it makes it look like you can morph a picture of your child into a cartoon picture. We did this and the cartoon character looked nothing like my daughter. We went through and changed every feature (eyes, ears, nose, hair) to look as close as we could get and I still don't think the cartoon character looked anything like her. The quality of papers are not great. The story selection is very limited. Overall I don't think I would have purchased this had I known about it beforehand. Very unimpressed.

My 8 year old daughter was excited to get this after seeing a commerical. The setup on the computer was easy. My daughter probably could have done it herself. The first disappointment was how it morphs the pictures. I tried using pictures I already had and then took new close up shots but none of the pictures looked too much like my daughter after they were turned into a cartoon. The shape of her face was probably the closest feature but overall I was disappointed because that is the main reason to buy this product. You child can make up a story on thier own and there are other free make you own story sites so the big hook was putting yourself in the story. I tried 2 of her friends, one with very distictive features and most family and friends could not guess which cartoon belonged to which kid. We decided to make a story with the best cartoon kid. I was surprised at the limited choices. My daughter was expecting to design her own dresses and accessories. There were 5-6 outfits to choose from and you had to wear the same outfit on each page. Printing out the story was easy. My daughter and her friends still colored then pages. Overall the product was easy to set up and use but i was not happy with the content. I would only buy this if the price drops alot.

As others have stated, you upload your child's photo, but the software doesn't use the photo to make the child's face. It gives you the same face for any photo and you have to chose the correct eyes, nose, mouth etc. to make it look like your child. In the end... it looks nothing like them.

I want to know what Crayola is doing with my children's photos. I uploaded them. They didn't use them to create the coloring book character. So what did they need me to upload my child's photo for? And are they storing these images? Who has access to them?

Also, you're obviously going to name the character after your child so Crayola and god knows who else, has access to your child's photo and name. Data which they didn't need to operate this program! Shocking that they are allowed to get away with this!

Crayola Story Studio - Fairytale Princess version. Save yourself the time and frustration and avoid this product. I saw an ad for this product on television, and then purchased it on Amazon. I typically read product reviews before purchasing a product, often both on Amazon and from other resources, but I failed to do so this time. Like the comments from some of the other reviews, I feel that the advertisements about this product are misleading.

Crayola advertises a morphing capability with which you can turn a photograph into a storybook character. The Story Studio is little more than an on-line tool you can use to mix and match a limited variety of pre-drawn facial features to create a character. The character is then superimposed onto the pages of a ten-page pre-drawn storybook. There is a small area at the bottom of each page to include your own story text, but no option is available to insert pre-written story text. While you have the option to upload a photograph in which to be morphed into a storybook character, the result is merely a computer generated selection of the pre-drawn features that attempt to resemble the face in the photo you uploaded. You can just as easily select the features yourself without uploading a photo to achieve the same, or better, result.

I was not expecting perfection based on the cost of the product; however, I did expect to be considerably more satisfied with the end result. After several attempts using both methods, the storybook characters we created using this product looked unrecognizable. That is to say that if someone gave me the finished storybook containing any of my family in the story pages as characters, I'm certain that I would not recognize them. No amount of imagination and/or squinting improved the situation.
