Great kids keyboard,

This review is from: Crayola USB EZ Type Keyboard (Personal Computers)
I bought this keyboard so that my 15 month old daughter would be able to use the keyboard without hitting a bunch of function keys causing disk drives to eject & other screens to pop up. It has fullfilled that purpose. The keys are large but it makes the letters easier to see for my kids. We just plugged it in & started using it. No software needed. This is a great basic keyboard with no fancy frills which is exactly what I was looking for.

I usually hate it when someone reviews a product when they first get it, but I just received this keyboard and felt compelled to report my first impressions. I am building a computer for my 1.5 year old grandson and I was looking for a simplified keyboard for him to use. This seems to fit the bill, but it has some issues.
First, the thing is really BIG. It is nearly as wide as my full size Microsoft natural 4000. The keys are also really BIG; like more than twice the size if normal keys. Although it has a QWERTY layout, the keys line up right under each other, which is different than a normal keyboard. The ";" key which is normally under your right little finger has moved, and the whole bottom row of keys is effectively shifted to the right one key. (examine the picture closely to see what I mean). The bottom line of all this is you can't touch type on it easily, which would have been difficult anyway given the huge size of the keys. I don't expect my grandson to be touch typing anytime soon, so it shouldn't be a problem for me, but it would be for older kids who are trying to learn to type.

This is not actually a Crayola product, it's made by a partner named Sakar. My keyboard arrived dead, I contacted Sakar and they indicated it would take 4 weeks to ship a replacement. Crayola won't even talk to you about this product they just send you to Sakar. The service and quality do not live up to the Crayola name.

My Son who is 1 and 3/4 loves this keyboard.Basically we play keyboard games online together. This keyboard solves the problem of him hitting the windows, or other critical buttons because it doesn't have them. And its quiet too!

As a school technology specialist and lab teacher, I ordered two of these keyboards for one of my preprimary classrooms. The item I received is much larger than the item pictured. Maybe they keyboard I received is a newer version, but I intentionally ordered the one pictured because it was larger keys but still has a small enough frame to fit on a smaller desk or table. The one I received is HUGE. It has a whole top portion above the keys with volume buttons and some other function keys. The added size makes it too large to put on a smaller desk. About the key size - This keyboard is the same size as a standard keyboard WITH A NUMBER KEYPAD, but this one doesn't have a number keypad. The keys themselves are huge! There is no way a tiny, preschool-sized hand or fingers could learn to type on this. That being said, I wouldn't expect a four-year-old to touch-type either. I do like that all of the letters on the keys are shown as capitals, as early letter recognition is taught with capital letters rather than lowercase. Using a regular QWERTY keyboard often trips kids up because they get confused between a lowercase "L" and a capital "i." I also appreciate the colors; they're wonderful and make it easy to describe what keys to touch. Many kids have a hard time remembering to space between words with first typing, so I do with that the spacebar key had it's own separate color. They keyboard works appropriately when plugged in and our Windows-based computer quickly recognized it. I did not test it on Mac OS. I also can't attest to the longevity of the product, as I just got the keyboards. :) Overall, good keyboard in theory, but execution could be better. Oh, and list the correct item!

Great for kids or adults that have poor vision. There are a few important keys missing: like the Windows one on the lower left of all keyboards. ~ Beside that.. Great item !!

I ordered this from Amazon and it arrived well packaged. Took it out of the package and plugged it into a computer running Windows XP. It was recognized and no driver disk was necessary to install. A major disappoint then set in once the kids tried to type on it. It appears there is some glitch with the circuitry or something within the keyboard. For example, pressing the V key typed VB. Pressing G typed GH, worse were a few other keys like R that typed RU and U typed RU as well. Middle number keys behaved the same. It affected the diagonal keys from 4-8 down through V and M. I'm returning it for another one in hopes I was just sent a random lemon. Otherwise it would have been perfect for kids with nearly 1" square rubbery type keys that have a nice press (i.e. no click when typing).
Also be advised the keyboard I was sent did not look like the picture. On mine, all the vowel keys were Red and at the top there are buttons for the Calculator, Volume control and a center "Crayola" button that launches your default Web Browser.

My 3 year old LOVES this keyboard. It's so fun to have. He really enjoys just typing letters and playing learning games way more than he ever did before. He feels empowered, I believe, by the big font and the very clean layout of it. We are pleased.

Our parent group bought a number of these delightful keyboards at the request of the teachers of our special needs preschool. The kids loves the bright colors and the oversize keys make it easier for our kids to interact with the software. What a great idea for children of any age and ability.
