I'm sticking with the dry erase crayons.

Ironically we gave the Crayola Dry Erase Crayons a try awhile back but found them too soft, messy and broke easily.

The leads kept breaking off in the sharpener and that was with me using it.

I had never heard of these, and there were no reviews, but I decided to take a chance and ordered a box. I originally got them to use on camping trips and long car rides so we wouldn't have melted crayons. The box arrived with a little pencil sharpener in the package. It said something to the effect of, "we didn't sharpen the pencils at the factory because they are sensitive to heat. Here is a sharpener to do it yourself." Right away I was disappointed that they had the potential to melt in the car. But I guess I should have expected them to be waxy because they are meant for a dry erase board.

I sharpened them with our electric sharpener. Word of warning: It only takes a second to sharpen. Don't think they are like normal pencils. Put them in the sharpener and take them right out. I haven't tried the supplied sharpener because I hid it from my kids. They can't ever seem to get all the shavings in the garbage can.

The leads are very thick, which is good, but the pencil is still only as big around as a regular pencil. So the wood surrounding the lead is very, very, thin. This makes it easy for the lead to break. We have a couple with wood that has split from the tip up. I think it would really improve the pencil if it were bigger around and stronger. When the tip breaks, it is up in the pencil part, so you lose about 1/2" of lead each time. I doubt this would be solved by using a different sharpener, but it could potentially be because I used the electric one.

Despite several (I mean every few minutes someone breaks one off-- it is not preventable) broken points and the constant need to sharpen, my kids (8 & 4) have had a blast with these.

the idea is great, but they do not work. I tried using them tonight and they broke 3 times in a minute. I expected more from Crayola.

My four year-old enjoys these. I like that they're the width of a regular pencil which reinforces how to hold a pencil correctly etc. They work nicely. No complains except that the sharpener is cheap and jams up constantly. Get a better one.

We love Crayola products and strictly purchase Crayola brand for my childcare. When I saw these Dry Erase Colored Pencils I was excited as all of my kids love the dry erase board. We use Crayola Washable Dry Erase Markers everyday so I couldn't resist purchasing the pencils. The excitement ended when I handed these out. The preschoolers quickly grew frustrated with having to push harder only to have the tip break off the pencil. Most of the children using them were 4-5 years old. When the older school aged children had the opportunity to use them I sat back and watched. It wasn't long before they too had the same issues. I collected the pencils and plan to contact Crayola~! We were so hoping to have another medium for our dry erase board. Ironically we gave the Crayola Dry Erase Crayons a try awhile back but found them too soft, messy and broke easily. We will stick with the markers until something better comes along.

Worst product Crayola has ever put on the market. I've tried about 4 different sharpeners and none work with these pencils. The lead breaks off in the sharpener or the wood cracks all the way down. Never had as much difficulty sharpening pencils. Those giant oversized souvenir pencils in gift shops would be easier to sharpen than these pieces of junk. The dry erase crayons seem the way to go. Crayola shouldn't have wasted anyone's time with releasing a product this crappy. So disappointed.

The tip breaks off the pencils much too easily. And if that isn't frustrating enough, the sharpener included with the pencils breaks just as quickly.

I wish I would have read the reviews here before I bought these. I bought them locally and unfortunately I can't even find the receipt or I would return them.

Such a neat idea, and such total failure as a product. It's extremely difficult to sharpen the pencils because the "lead" breaks off so easily. Then if you succeed, the lead breaks off the minute you start using them. Every 15 seconds or so my 3 year old yells "Oh, look what happened!" I can't even sharpen them fast enough to keep up with her. And it's not just her being rough with them either; my husband and I both had the same problem when we tried to use them.

I had such high hopes. She makes such a mess with the markers and she can't keep herself from tearing the paper off the crayons (which also makes a mess) and I was too thrilled when I saw these at the store to stop and research before I bought. :(

Seriously, don't bother. Even if they were free they would be overpriced.

To get these to work kids and adults have to push hard, so breakage is common. They do what is claimed otherwise, they write well on dry erase--not too hard to remove either. But we bought this for preschool age kids and was not a good fit, likely not for older kids as well. Cool concept though, may just need a little refining on the material in the pencil.
