Crazy babes, nude and colorful, frolicking along pastoral lakesides, the bowels of New York City, and everywhere in-between. Finally, 360 of Bob Coulter's greatest hits off the infamous photographic website are available in book form. Wow, cool Coulter!

"SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL"

About the Author

Bob’s professional progression from record producer to photographer is unexpectedly logical. Just as being able to say what you mean is not always easy, a good record producer is someone who intuitively understands what the artist wants to communicate, is able to find the language to extract it, and has the technical facility to capture it. Likewise, in Bob’s photography, he has an aesthetic in mind, honed the ability to communicate and extract it from "the talent," and has the confidence to know his work holds merit.

And the subject matter of Bob’s photography is certainly taken from his music career; sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Guitars are occasionally used as props, the infamous Chelsea Hotel --indelibly linked with rock and roll history-- is used as a location for several of the shoots. And then there are the needles and the lines. There are elements of rock and roll fantasy; many of the pictures could easily be looked at as stills from a music video, if only MTV would allow nudity.

As a record producer Bob was always "independent" but the nastiness of the business encouraged him to mold his life to an increasingly autonomous extreme, which the internet certainly allowed. Bob started his web site crazybabe.com in 1999, primarily as a get rich quick scheme. He started taking pictures shortly after, realizing that in a competitive market he needed original content.

Bob learned the rudiments of cameras and film in high school. But had it not been for the advent of digital cameras and photo programs such as PhotoShop Bob never would have picked up a camera again after some twenty years. These tools allow him to explore, learn and alter photographs without the prohibitive expense of film and developing. For technical assistance, Bob turned to professional photographers and friends such as Carol LeFlufy, Fortune Procopio, Nancy Davenport, Peter Gorman and Leland Ray.

3.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Editing, October 22, 2005
This review is from: Crazy Babe (Hardcover)
Coulter doesn't consider himself a photographer, although he definitely has a gift. His images are highly erotic while not overtly glamorous. As a matter of fact, this could have been titled "White Trash Diva" except not all of his models are strictly caucasian. It's essense is, however, raw in an explicit way that is nevertheless enticing. The book is divided by model and some photos are stunning while others should have been on the cutting room floor. But, I was not disappointed and the price was appropriate. Overall a good addition to my collection.

2.0 out of 5 stars Respectfully disagree with the other reviewers, October 31, 2004

I'm not one to find joy in giving books negative reviews, so I'll say right up front that "Crazy Babe" is not necessarily a "bad" book. Though I see that many readers found this book to be fantastic, the 2-star rating reflects my tastes as well as my caution to those who may be taken aback by explicit nude photographs.

As an admirer of fine photography of the human form, I'm spoiled by artists such as Newton, Schatz, Demarchelier and Bensimon, to name a few, who take such beautiful photos of the female figure that almost anyone would marvel over them. In "Crazy Babe," photographer Bob Coulter has put together a collection of images that, while having some artistic merit, have left the realm of creativity/originality and are knocking at the door of pornography (not all, but most of them).

Fifteen different models are portrayed in approximately 350 photos (all digital, I believe). Each image is the size of a large postcard, one per page. The photographic quality is excellent: sharp exposure, good lighting and vibrant color. The book is also put together well in terms of paper quality and binding. Some images were decently constructed; however, far too many were taken either from an odd angle or too close up, which resulted in a distorted perspective. As for the majority of photos, which were autoerotic or just plain in-your-face, one could take it or leave it.

For me, the overall vibe from "Crazy Babe" was not positive. Though these "babes" may be both crazy and nude, I didn't consider many of their pictures attractive or alluring. Much more beautiful (and artistic) photos of nude women can easily be found elsewhere

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting, May 9, 2005
This review is from: Crazy Babe (Hardcover)
The photos are beautiful and the models are sexy. There are a number of photos that are more pornograpic than artistic but there are some very erotic artistic jorneys as well.
