Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Boy from East L.A. meets girl from the "right" side of the tracks. Unfortunately, their relationship is threatened by mediocre music... er, societal pressures. For every worthy, evocative track that the Kirsten Dunst-starring Crazy/Beautiful's CD companion offers, two seem like recordings that a studio suit decided "the kids will relate to": Emiliana Torrini's Björk-lite "To Be Free," the Getaway People's Beck-lite "She Gave Me Love," and Osker's Blink-182-lite "Alright" might work in theaters, but here they just make the listener hope that the movie itself is better written than these leftovers. Save for the Dandy Warhols' "Sleep" (from 2000's masterful Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia) and maybe Fastball's "This Is Not My Life," the album hardly makes a good argument for the continuing validity of guitar rock--and was Seven Mary Three's "Wait" commissioned as a Goo Goo Dolls knockoff or a Bon Jovi homage? Latin hip-hop is better served, with excellent Mellow Man Ace and Delinquent Habits concoctions on board, but rock tunes by La Ley and Serralde are hardly as inspiring. --Rickey Wright

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect but missing one of the best songs!!!, November 18, 2001

Michael Greenwaldt (Randall, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crazy Beautiful (Audio CD)
I saw the movie four times this week since it came out on video Tuesday and I love it. It was a very good teen drama and one of the best and most underrated movies of the year. As soon as I saw the movie I had to rush out and buy the soundtrack and I'm glad I did, it's GREAT. I want to give it 5 stars so bad but I can't because it's missing one of the BEST songs from the movie called "This Years Love" by David Gray. It's an amazing song and I don't see why it wasn't put on the soundtrack. It was a BIG part of the movie and really stood out. The soundtrack is great and features almost every song from the movie but that one. And I do love the soundtrack but I must say I was very disappointed that song wasn't on it. That was a HUGE mistake not to include it. Anyway, if you liked the movie and the music then definately buy the CD, but that song should have been on here and is definately missed. Other than that both the soundtrack and the movie are very good.

I would give the soundtrack ***** but it's missing that song so I must go with ****, but even without that song it is still one of my favorite soundtracks and CD's of the year. Definately buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Collective Soul - After All, March 12, 2002
By
"captainspellcheck" (Sardinia, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crazy Beautiful (Audio CD)
I know many people who may be searching online are frequent visitors to pages like this, so I wanted to do my good deed for the day to help people who were wondering what song was being played in the airplane scene in Crazy/Beautiful. I saw another post on here referring to that song as Collective Soul's song "Turnaround"... This is wrong. The song is by Collective Soul and is called "After All". It sounds similar to "Turnaround" and is also on Collective Soul's new Cd "Blender" I know at least one person was looking for this info. If you want to hear the song, in the post-Napster age.. you should get Bearshare or another program that runs on the Gnutella network and download until your heart is content. It is a shame that the Collective Soul song and the David Gray song were not included on the Soundtrack, they are both very good songs.
