Victorian "crazy quilts" are usually associated with luxurious fabrics such as velvets and silks; cotton crazy quilts came later and their history has not been well documented. This work is about having a good time making story or theme quilts using the crazy-quilt technique and picture fabrics. Theme ideas include dinosaurs, sports, hobbies, animals, weddings, birthdays, children, and even a flower fantasy replete with floral prints. The idea is to collect fabrics depicting your subject and to create a unique quilt. Leone leads the reader step-by-step through the process, from choosing the fabric to labeling the quilt. She also includes a section on using this technique to get children interested in quilting.

The author gives easy-to-follow instructions with lots of pictures. The technique used is great for using up scraps in a crazy quilt, and makes it simple to take a theme and run with it. Adaptable to everything from baby quilts to Victorian lace. This is an excellent book for beginning quilters.

this is a great book for a begining quilter like myself. the step by step instructions w/ color photos make piecing crazy quilt style easy. even children are shown making their own creations. it was nice to see male children shown getting into quilting. i got some great ideas from this bk & am pleased w/ the results. the color photos & tips on combining different fabric pattern scale/color/tone were helpful. i deleted the step on using a foundation fabric b/c i didn't think it was necessary & would have made my quilted cushion cover too bulky. a basic & short guide bk.
