I had this magic prop previously and misplaced it. This was a replacement order and it still works 100%. The trick I use is to shake the container 6 times and then narrow my choices down to (2) possibilities. Then... I get the 1st attempt wrong on purpose... Then the next few times I am on the mark. I had this at a party and amazed everyone for almost 30 minutes... Fun!

A great mentalism trick for kids with some showmanship,

My six year old magician has trouble with some tricks, but not with this one. He's mystified his grandmother (who is, admittedly, pretty gullible) as well as his babysitters and others. Truly mystified them, not like some of the tricks he does where the adult is merely being polite. It's a real confidence builder for him, and it's an easy trick to do (though making it truly mysterious requires showmanship, as does any good trick).
Basically, the magician brings out two plastic cylinders and two plastic lids along with a six sided die. The stuff couldn't be cheaper in appearance, but that actually helps to rule out much hanky-panky; everything looks pretty straightforward. The magician commands a member of the audience to place the die into the smaller cylinder and put the lid on it, remembering what side is facing up (or you can get them to "think of a number between 1 and 6" and have them put the die in the box so the number they thought of is facing up...) The magician then picks up the closed, very opaque cylinder and demonstrates to the audience that the cylinder cannot be seen-through. The magician then places the smaller cylinder inside the larger one (or has the audience member do this) and the lid is applied. The magician then asks the audience member to concentrate on their number, and then accurately divines the chosen number. This can be repeated but I wouldn't recommend repeating it to audiences who are hell-bent on figuring out the method. The pieces are examinable, but I'd recommend handing out each piece individually, rather than all the pieces at once (a lucky spectator could divine the method). My child has lots of tricks, but this is the one that really fools people. As he gets older this trick will likely fall by the wayside, but the techniques and showmanship he's learned performing it will stay with him. RECOMMENDED for beginners who want a sure-fire trick that smacks of "real" magic to build confidence, mystify the audience, and learn showmanship. |
