5.0 out of 5 stars Why Storm is the coolest rock chick ever!, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Crazy Enough (Audio CD)
Storm Large is in her purest form in this album. These songs were written as part of her one-woman show "Crazy Enough", currently being performed at Portland Center Stage. (On a side note, having recently seen the show, it is easily one of the best pieces of performance art/theater I have ever seen!)

The range of these songs is as broad as Storm's voice. From the sensual "Inside Outside", to the poingnant "Lullaby Song", to the rollicking "8 Miles Wide", every song hits you right where it should. Her vocals are strong and the lyrics are not only meaningful, but catchy as well.

Storm clearly lives her work, and her passion for music emanates in every note she sings. I recommend this album to anyone who has music in their soul. She will sing to it.

Storm, she has a must have collection of work, some from the way back. Get it how ever you can, even used. I live in the Sacramento Metro Area, but was lucky enough to see her perform twice in Portland, OR. Wow! What a presence! I cant say enough! Discover her for yourself, NOW. ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Storm Large 'Eight Miles Wide' video review, June 30, 2010
This review is from: Crazy Enough (MP3 Download)
Storm Large is a rock chick that should be a phenom. You can find plenty of info about her on the interweb, but suffice to say that she's a big-voiced, bigger-than-life talent with raw moxie and passion out the a**, and freakishly hot in a totally scary, real-girl way; that is, she eschews the 'skinny-girl' look, has some imposing body art, and seems approachable, if you have enough balls and are interesting enough to conduct a conversation.

The song, 'Eight Miles Wide' is a Large, tongue-in-cheek anthem to acceptance of the marginalized, including the marginalizers. That includes you, me, her, torch singers, night-club audiences, strip-club buddies, hot chicks in poofy dresses on big horses (her again), bull dykes, hot pixy chicks, furries, big girls in tight dresses, trannies, contortionists, mimes, &c.; you name it, ad sillium. The 'Eight Miles Wide' in question is a 'Vigantical' metaphor for her arms-wide-open 'vagina', where 'everyone' should 'come inside'.

Ms Large is damned pretty in the best non- skinny American Girl tradition, and her huge grin, lost-in-thought demeanor, and thoughtful sincerity, combined with her willingness to be the butt of her own jokes, makes the video watchable and fun. The song, while a bit of a throw-away, is a catchy vocal-riff number. The video has so many sincerely comic moments, you'll find yourself watching it several times for the humor, as well as the hotness. Take the song for the pop-product it's intended to be, and move on to her intent that the video for 'Eight Miles Wide' look like "a cross between a Dr. Pepper commercial and a Massengill douche commercial." Storm Large grin.

Love Storm, both music and personality. This is a fun, dark, and soulful group of songs that really showcases her in a whole new way. Still can't figure out why she's not a huge star

5.0 out of 5 stars Storm is one of the best things out of Portland!, January 7, 2012
This review is from: Crazy Enough (Audio CD)
For years I saw Storm perform at Dantes in Downtown Portland every Wednesday and I think it is great that she is finally getting the attention she has deserved for so long! If you got a chance to see her one woman show at Portland Center Stage then you should pick up this CD. It is the perfect companion to her show and features "8 Mile Wide"... which is hilarious (although you may not want to blast it too loud driving through areas filled with children). If you've never heard Storm before then try this album out and you will be sold on her talent and go hunting for more of her albums.... and someone who has them all I will tell you that they are worth the hunt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Storm?, November 21, 2011
By
This review is from: Crazy Enough (Audio CD)
From Webster - "Definition of PERFECT STORM : a critical ... situation created by a powerful concurrence of factors"

What you have here is a powerful concurrence of factors:

- A woman with a strong and powerful voice

- A woman with the talent for writing thought filled and meaningful songs

- A woman whose mother suffered from mental illness, and she was told it was hereditary

- Friends strong enough to pull her back up and back into the world of music that she loved

The critical situation is a woman in need of an outlet and with the talent to do something great.

The result is an album of thought filled music sung with passion and power.

It's not for everyone, but if you like female rockers with the ability to sing a range of music from hard core rock to melodic ballads, and enjoy a little raunch in your rock, then you should give this a listen.

It's great stuff (IMHO).

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy to ignore such a perfect Storm, September 3, 2010

Kenn Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crazy Enough (Audio CD)
Recently and thankfully I saw Storm Large perform twice during the Edinburgh Festival and would have loved to have seen her a few more times as this woman is one of the most amazing stage performers I have ever seen. Crazy Enough the cd stands up very well to the live show and features high class compositions, her band especially James Beaton on keyboards is exceptional.

Not one weak track but some absolute killers in Call me Crazy, Throw Away the Key, After All, the stunning closers Where Is My Mind and Inside Outside. Whether in rock mode or ballad she has that special something that makes it all work.

She deserves all the success going as Storm is a super sexy, funny, brave, intelligent, beautiful, talented woman with a stunning voice. She has magnetism and charisma in bucketloads.

Can't praise this cd enough with all the dross out there this rock chic has produced a real shining star.
