Fantastic!,

This review is from: Crazy For You: Original London Cast Recording (Audio CD)
As was the case with the London recording of Chicago, this recording far surpasses the Broadway version. As was also the case with the London version of Chicago, Ruthie Henshall totally steals the show. Buy the London recording of Crazy For You. If you already own the U.S. version, this one is sooo much better that it's almost a completely different musical. And if you don't own any version, for God's sake, buy this one!

Ruthie - Need I say more?,

Crazy for You: a song and dance musical romantic comedy spectacle gloriously returning the Gershwins' music to the stage. What is there not to like? The songs are incredible, the arrangements divine, and the selection of Gershwin tunes is unparalleled on any other album, theatrical or studio recordings alike. As if that weren't enough, the performers here are simply spectacular. Kirby Ward's rich tones and fun style makes for great listening. Amanda Ford is captivating on the rare song "Naughty Baby." Vanessa Leigh Hicks and Nicola Hughes have both gone on to great acclaim. And then there is the small matter of "Crazy"'s leading lady, Ruthie Henshall. As if her resume (Oliver!, Chicago, She Loves Me, Miss Saigon, Cats, Children of Eden, Divorce Me Darling, Les Miserables...) isn't impressive enough, her vocals will catch you and will not let go. This is one woman who's voice and perconality resonate as she sings some of the most fun music ever written. If you thought Geme Kelly did a good job on "I've Got Rhythym," you have another thing comming. It isn't often that someone arrives who can top Gene Kelley, Bebe Neuwirth, Elaine Paige, or any other name you can throw out. So sit, enjoy, and resign yourself to the fact that this disc will NEVER leave your stereo. Ruthie and Gershwin. Who could ask for anything more?

An interesting thing about this collection of Gershwin tunes is that the London version has so much more to offer the casual show-tunes listener. The London version features a more rich sound, while slowing the pace from its Broadway counterpart. If you've seen the show, if you like the music, you should probably consider purchasing the London version. It's worth the price of admission into this wonderful look at the songwriting talents of Mr. Gershwin.
