5.0 out of 5 stars Super fun for kids who love tents
Our son loves tents made for kids but the ready-made tents we purchased for him wouldn't hold up for even a month before they ripped, were torn and ruined. I decided to try Crazy Forts instead--Crazy Forts is essentially a large scale tinker toy set that allows you and your kid to create multiple structures. I bought Crazy Forts for my 4 year old son, who just loves it when I build him forts out our dining room chairs. I purchased this set thinking of all the creative ways we could build new adventures that didn't involve tearing my whole house apart. The individual pieces are incredibly sturdy, but when put together they fall apart very easily. The "balls" in which the sticks are inserted have approx. 16 different orientations possible. Having said this, in order to achieve a angular roof as shown on the box, you must calculate correctly the rotation/position of each ball. My 4 year old of course cannot do this, my 14 year old gave up after about 1/2 hour and then mom stepped in. It took me about a 1/2 hour of rotating those balls to achieve something that looked like a house. It lasted about 5 minutes after my son started playing with it. Basic squares are very easy to build, but again not too creative and the structures fall apart very easily. I spent about 80 dollars on this set and I totally regret this purchase. The concept is great, but execution is incredibly difficult. Save your money and build your forts out of your dining room chairs and the sofa.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, December 28, 2009

i bought two of these kits for my 7 year old son for Christmas. I had read reviews which warned that it was difficult for younger kids to put together, but I figured his 12 year old brother could help him and they'd have fun with it together. I purchased 2 kits because reviews from people who liked it said 1 kit was not enough to make really cool forts. Well, this was a complete dud. The forts do NOT stay together. Talk about frustration! I thought maybe the kids were just being impatient and that if I built it, then I could teach them how to do it and they'd have fun. No way. The rubber balls do not have deep enough holes to get the sticks to stay in properly. If you can manage to get something put together, the entire thing collapses as soon as a sheet is put on it. Save your money and your frustration!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Great FUN!, December 8, 2010

I read the previous reviews. We did find it tricky at first to assemble, but once we got the hang of it...the kids did fine with it. I reccommend that you buy a "satin" or silky sheet (we used our 600 count Egyptian Cotton) sheet for putting on the top of the fort. Any heavier and it doesn't stand.

My kids liked it so much, I bought another set for Xmas so they can make "Bigger" Forts! I also got it with the "lights."

I wouldn't get for kids younger than five years old due to having to use their hands with strong manipulations.

I didn't give it Five stars b/c of the flimsy-ness of it (stated above re: sheets).

I decided to try Crazy Forts instead--Crazy Forts is essentially a large scale tinker toy set that allows you and your kid to create multiple structures. Once the structure is built, it's covered (or not--whatever your preference) with the sheets and blankets that you have at home. We all LOVE this toy and it's been endless, indoor-winter fun. Some of the structures we made: an "igloo," a canopy over our son's bed (and covered with a blue silk fabric painted w/ stars), a big tent, and pretend stores. The parts are very durable, easy to put together and easy to take down after each use. We just purchased the companion lights to add more creative fun as well--although a flashlight would work just as well. Our son loves to spend time reading, eating his snack, and playing pretend in his structures. He'll get lots of years use from this toy. I can see why it's won toy awards.

This toy offers a lot of creative building by my two sons. However the stability of the items built is a little lacking. One could hardly touch the constructed fort with out some joint or part of it coming loose. If the toy had better connections or joints this toy would be much better.

Crazy Forts!

Crazy Forts Construction Toy Fort Lights

Crazy Forts Construction Toy 69 Piece Set and Fort Lights

I purchased this for my 2 grandchildren for Christmas. BIG MISTAKE! The poles did not stay together long enough for the kids to climb into it. Any structure built would have been too small even for the 4 year old. The lights were too expensive for what they were. Trying to get it to stay together for the 4 year old to even climb in caused too much aggravation.

In my opinion, this toy is unusable for its stated use. The kids ended up just throwing the balls around and using the poles as "swords" after none of us were able to keep the "fort" together.

I packed it up and put it away. I wish I had never spent the money.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: The it was delivered fast and in pleanty of time for Christmas. No shipping issues.

Really like this product but wished it came with "blueprints" for the other shapes it can make, I did not print any and had to depend on the picture on the box.
