Editorial Reviews

From the shifting fault lines of Hollywood fantasies
and the economic and racial tensions of Reagan s
America, Fishbone rose to become one of the
most original bands of the last 25 years. With
a blistering combination of punk and funk, they
demolished genre walls and challenged the racial
stereotypes and political order of the music
industry and the nation.
Formed in 1979 in South Central Los Angeles,
Fishbone landed a major label record deal soon
after the members graduated from high school.
However, after this early success the band
struggled for acceptance in a racially stratified
music industry while their unabashedly hybrid
style kept them proudly out of fashion. When the
group emerged in the 80s, America s melting pot
was being stirred by a mosh pit of disenfranchised
youth confronted with lingering racial and economic
issues left unresolved by previous generations.
Today, the band members are increasingly
recognized as pioneers, and younger musicians
often cite them as big influences in creating new
musical possibilities in a blooming multicultural
world. As Gwen Stefani of No Doubt remembers,
Fishbone was the band that gave us the inspiration
to be a band. They are just so unique and that is
what I love ... that they were super underground.

5.0 out of 5 stars FISHBONE Is Still on The ONE! October 11, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I really dig this new EP! FISHBONE,shows that after a quarter of a century of releasing killer jams, that they are still relevant today by creating great new music! This EP is a breath of fresh air compared to what's on the current market today. The nucleus of this band still consists of the founding members: Angelo Moore,Norwood Fisher and Dirty Walt(Which brings back that grimy,low-down,funky sound on vocals that was really missed over the last few years.)This Band really gives it up on this release! Angelo's lead, and the bands background vocals, are full of:energy, soul, swagger, aggression and most importantly;THE FUNK! Rocky's guitar playing brings a fresh new element to their style,Dre's keyboards are on time, and John's drumming is tight and funky as always. The horn section led by:Angelo,Dirty Walt, and Jay Armant is very soulful, and brings back their ska sound from back in the day. The music is different in sound than other F-BONE albums, but their signature style remains. The music is a blend of: progressive SKA,FUNK-METAL,PUNK ROCK,NEW WAVE,PSYCHEDELIA and even a little ACID JAZZ all thrown into an eclectic mix. The lyrics are also "ILL" and a lot of fun as well. My favorite tracks are:"Crazy Glue","Deep s**t Backstroke","DUI Friday","Akkafoo" and "Gittin' In That A**". This is an all around tight band,Black Rock flows thru these cats! Also, the Pedro Bell inspired cover art is dope! If you dig far-out hardcore music, then you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars An astounding 7 track EP October 29, 2011
By B-Goody
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Fishbone have been around for a long time, at least since the early eighties. And yet it seems to me, from there last album,'Stuck In Your Throat', to this EP, they are sounding better, having fun and just playing hard and heavy rock-punk-ska with crazy lyrics by Angelo Moore, voice as good as ever. This entire Ep kicks arse, it's funky with heavy bass and metal guitars, with the bands signature sound yet have evolutionized beyond this era of crappy music. These guys just have fun and they love it and it shows in their recording, with a raw live feel. Worth the 7 songs?, you bet!

- ALL OF EM!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars From a Die-Hard Fishbone Soulja... This is a grower March 31, 2012
By Matt Z.
Format:Audio CD
It's taken me a few months to write this review. Mainly because i stutter
(pauses for zero laughter)

Crazy Glue, the new Fishbone EP commemorating their 25th anniversary as a band! (You didn't hear about it? Well you should have, there SHOULD BE a FISHBONE holiday.

Just saying.

Anyways, the band is back. There have been some line up changes alluded to by other reviewers. This album benefits from having Dirty Walt back in the mix. He adds so much hilarity and f-ing character to the band that it's a testament to the chemistry of the original lineup that just his return made this album a bit much better. (No offense to Faceplant Scorpion Backpinch)

However, most of the subject matter of the songs are huge downers. Luckily for me, i can identify with some of it. (Which means it grew with me) At first, lacking an upbeat song like "Cheyenne Starr Forevermore" I had a hard time approaching this behemoth. But it has grown on me. Relentlessly.

Crazy Glue is a great chill track
Flutterbutter is so damn aggressive and thumping that i got hooked on it first at their INCREDIBLE LIVE SHOWS in LA. (Norwood never sounded better on bass...LIVE... well, maybe he did, i wasn't around in 85)

Deep s*** backstroke is a great commentary, the song is rocking as well.

Rather than continue a track by track I'll just say for the most part the album fluctuates from riffing to BLISTERING to aggression, with the two tail end songs being the only reprieve. One: chill; Crazy Glue. The Other: Meditative but somehow musically fun "Weed Beer and Cigarettes"

I've been playing this album more and more often, listening back to it each time and hearing a new phrase or expression i hadn't caught before. For an EP, this is pretty phenomenal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fishbone drops the Pop October 19, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
'Crazy Glue' leans away from Fishbone's pop instincts and instead leans towards their ever-present crazy side. Each tune on 'Crazy Glue' tells it's own wacky story and Fishbone holds nothing back as usual. The muscianship continues to be top-level, agressive, loud and loose. No new ground here, just the same fertile reggae/ska/punk/metal/funk hybrid that Fishbone excels at so mightily. I hope I get to hear this stuff live!
