Stanley Birdbaum enjoys all the special days his class commemorates-Pajama Day, Twin Day, Sixties Day. So he goes all out for Crazy Hair Day, using rubber bands, styling gel and two cans of colored Halloween hair spray to fashion a row of blue and orange spikes.
When Stanley arrives at school, he learns that Crazy Hair Day is NEXT Friday. Today is School Picture Day.
Mortified, Stanley hides out in the bathroom. When his buddy finally coaxes him out, Stanley learns his class has devised a way to make him feel part of the class photo.
A great story about being "the-odd-one-out" and enduring teasing, and of friendship and classmate solidarity!

This story explores one version of the kinds of nightmares that insecure people have: going to school half-dressed, having to take a final exam for a course that you've never attended, showing up to a party on the wrong day. The anxious among us can relate to coming to school with the perfect crazy hair on the wrong day--picture day. The story uses humor and silliness to deal with the topics of embarrassment, friendship, and compassion. While the character's peers initially react like real kids would, with some good direction, they mitigate the little guy's embarrassment. If only we were all so lucky as to have this little guy's teacher and friends when we make a social mistake.

This is a wonderful story about taking a risk that didn't pay off, at least at first. Stanley felt horrible after going all out for crazy hair day on the WRONG day. His classmates put Stanley's feelings ahead of their own embarrassment and their friendship saves the day!

I was disappointed with this picture book. It read more like a magazine article. It's a cute idea and I love school stories. I taught for 35 years! But it didn't ring true to me. Would a teacher really let Stanley stay in the bathroom by himself for that extended time? I don't think so. I do like the idea that the class shows a sort of kindness by all making their hair "crazy" to make Stanley feel better. But again, is that the best solution? It certainly invites a class discussion of what children think are other possible solutions. And that's a good thing.

Cutest book ever! The main character comes to school thinking that it is Crazy Hair Day and he is stunned to find out that Crazy Hair Day is the following week and today is picture day! He hides in the bathroom until he is finally convinced to come out, only to find that all his classmates have come to his rescue and all have crazy hair too. This is a touching book to show that kids can help their friends when the going gets rough.

This is a wonderful children's book about how to stick up for one's friends and to make them feel included. It is a nice story about those awkward moments of childhood and how they can be eased by both children and adults.

This is a really cute book where the main character mixes up his important days and thinks that it is crazy hair day when it is really class picture day! A great book to read to your kids on crazy hair day OR picture day!

I am a guidance counselor for elementary school age children. This is a nicely illustrated, easy to read aloud to a child and/or classroom and teaches a nice lesson on acceptance and how to be a friend.
