The soundtrack to "Crazy Heart" is excellent!,
By Kris King "Kristopher" (Malone, NY USA) - See all my reviews

The soundtrack to "Crazy Heart" is excellent! This is one of the best soundtracks of last year. All of the tracks on here are excellent! Note: There are 2 different editions to this soundtrack, this review is on the deluxe edition, which has 6 or 7 more tracks than the regular edition and it is packaged in a digipak case. I personally think that is the deluxe edition is the better version of the soundtrack.
Track Listing 1. Hold On You (Jeff Bridges) 2. Hello Trouble (Buck Owens) 3. My Baby's Gone (Louvin Brothers) 4. Somebody Else (Stephen Bruton) (Instrumental) 5. Somebody Else (Jeff Bridges) 6. I Don't Know (Ryan Bingham) 7. Wesley's Piano (Tom Canning) 8. Fallin' & Flyin' (Jeff Bridges) 9. Searching (For Someone Like You) (Kitty Wells) 10. I Don't Know (Jeff Bridges) 11. Once A Gambler (Lightnin Hopkins) 12. Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way (Waylon Jennings) 13. I Let the Freight Train Carry Me On (Delmore Brothers) 14. Color of the Blues (George Jones) 15. Joy (Lucinda Williams) 16. Fallin' & Flyin' (Colin Farrell & Jeff Bridges) 17. Gone, Gone, Gone (Colin Farrell) 18. If I Needed You (Townes Van Zandt) 19. Reflecting Light (Sam Phillips) 20. Mal Hombre (Lydia Mendoza) 21. Live Forever (Robert Duvall) 22. Brand New Angel (Jeff Bridges) 23. The Weary Kind (Ryan Bingham)

This is a great album. It has a mix of classics and new. I love Fallin' & Flyin' and The Weary Kind. Hard to say which I like better.
I've loved Stephen Bruton's music for a long time and can feel his influence on this album... good music along with great lyrics. My only wish: Although I know this is a movie soundtrack and I'm sure that's why the voices of the new songs sound like they're recorded in a live venue instead of a studio... kind of that hollow sound... not as clear as they might have been. I'd have liked if they had tuned the guitars back a bit and let the voices shine a bit more. This is no reflection on any of the voices. It's a small thing and I absolutely love the album! Been waiting for it and I'm not disappointed.

The Crazy Heart soundtrack features great country music. I love the theme song "Weary Heart" by Ryan Bingham. His guitar playing and vocals are beautiful and soothing. I didn't know that Jeff Bridges could sing country. There is no real country singer named Bad Blake, but I can believe that Jeff Bridges is a country singing star after listening to this song. This is a fun song. Another big shock is Colin Farrell. He sings the song "Gone Gone Gone" in his role as Tommy Sweet. This is an upbeat song that knocks my socks off. Jeff and Colin duet on the song "Fallin and Flyin". This is one of the highlights on the song. Lucinda Williams lends her talents with her song "Joy". She can play the guitar like few people can. There are two versions of the track "Somebody Else". I like the instrumental guitar playing by Stephen Bruton, and I love the version with vocals by Jeff Bridges. "I Let The Freight Train Carry Me On" is a light happy tune that puts me in a good mood. The Kitty Wells song "Searching For Someone Like You" is a very pretty song. I love the music and the movie Crazy Heart very much.

Classic Music, Old and New,
By Old T.B. (Cheyenne, Wy USA) - See all my reviews

T Bone Burnett, the late Stephen Bruton, and company have assembled a top notch soundtrack. Most of the songs are in the country vein, but there are ventures into blues and folk, as well. I really enjoy how the new music fits in with the classic tunes selected. There is not a weak track on here.
Of the new tracks, I agree with the other reviewers that "The Weary Kind" is a great song, but I believe my favorite is "Fallin' & Flyin'." It is simply a great, rough-hewn, voice-of-experience number. As for the older songs, we get classic Buck Owens, Kitty Wells, Townes Van Zandt, Waylon Jennings, and the brothers Louvin and Delmore, as well as a mighty fine pick by Lightnin' Hopkins. Incredible. I find it safe to say that Crazy Heart will stand out as one of the best releases of 2010. It's hard to beat.

T Bobe Burnett Does it Again,

This review is from: Crazy Heart: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Deluxe Edition) (MP3 Download)
If you've seen this great film then you know what the soundtrack is all about. It's another gem from Mr. T. Bone Burnett, the pride of Forth Worth. Somehow he manages to create collections of songs that complement the film but also have an indentity of their own. My admiration of Mr. Burnett was high before, but with the inclusion of Lydia Mendoza's "Mal Hombre" (it's the song on the jukebox in Wayne's (Robert Duvall) Houston bar) it knows no bounds. One Texas treasure recognizing another of a previous generation. Senora Mendoza is largely unknown outside of the Latino community where she is appropriately revered. "La Alondra de la Frontera" ("The Lark of the Border") as she was called, is a jewel too little known.

If you are a fan of Americana, Country/Blues, whatever you want to call it - The Deluxe Edition is a must-have. I usually dislike soundtrack albums, but if this were released without being attachment to its movie (which is fantastic as well BTW), I would be perfectly pleased with this purchase. Standouts include "Somebody Else" including its preceding instrumental - great Texas Blues Guitar work, and Lucinda Williams on "Joy" is a knock-down drag out Saloon Encore Anthem. Everyone else here says it well - get this, and see this movie!!!

I agree with others that this is a great soundtrack, both the originals that T. Bone Burnett and Stephen Bruton created, and the classics that they included. Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell were much better than I would have expected as country singers, and Fallin' & Flyin' was/is a great song. I liked the movie a lot and thought the story was good and the characters were great, but what I didn't expect was that I would end up thinking that the movie ultimately was great because it was about music -- and how much it affects us and moves us and has meaning for us. The soundtrack reflects that, even including the a cappella version of Billy Joe Shaver's Live Forever by Robert Duvall -- a touching song and a touching rendition of it. I got the MP3 version and was glad that it had both versions of Fallin' & Flyin' -- the Jeff Bridges solo version and the Bridges/Colin Farrell duet. The track list for the deluxe CD doesn't list the solo version but I'm told that that is a typo and that the CD does actually include both versions. I hope so. It should. It's a great song; I wish it were longer.

The deluxe soundtrack to "Crazy Heart" is very enjoyable. I'm a fan of just about anything Jeff Bridges does and he inhabits the soul of his character's songs. "Somebody Else", "I Don't Know", "Falling and Flying" are my favorites. Colin Farrell, another non-singer, is terrific on "Gone, Gone, Gone". I'm not a regular purchaser of country music, but I do enjoy when a music has good melodies and universal lyrics. I gravitated to The George Jones and Waylon Jennings, and the selection by Townes Van Zandt. It's a great addition to my music collection - I've listened to it all day!

This soundtrack is great from beginning to end. The Weary Kind is the best tune on the album. The movie is great too so go check it out if it comes around.
