Book Description

“I was born to love you.”

So begins this award-winning, inspiring story of a real-life fairy tale that grew into a parable on the healing power of love. This tender tribute is the true story of two people who had given up on love, but God had a different plan. Crazy Love is the powerful story of how their love turned into the most transformative journey of their lives.

2014 Winner of the Catholic Writers Guild Seal of Approval Award

“Crazy Love is a beautiful, moving, and captivating glimpse into one couple's living out of the Sacrament of Marriage. In doing so, they discover the true meaning of love for each other and encounter our God who is crazy in love with humanity.”

– Reverend C. Thomas Miles, JCL, Adjutant Judicial Vicar,
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina

“This book is the story of a love the way most of us dream it could be. I laughed through this book, cried through this book, and didn't want it to ever end. God showers His love on their marriage and blesses them in their joy and in their sorrow. But there should be a warning with this book: you'll want a Harry of your own.”

- Cecelia Flanary, Executive Director, Divine Mercy Radio

“Crazy Love is a beautiful story of love and faith, joy and loss. Based on true events, Harry and Eileen were blessed to find love late in life. Harry was eventually diagnosed with cancer, and their love story becomes a fervent plea to God. Uplifting, heartfelt, and inspiring, I highly recommend it!!”

- Ellen Gable Hrkach, award-winning, bestselling author of Stealing Jenny

“Crazy Love is a highly readable memoir filled with humor, wisdom, and emotional depth. It deals with both the joys and difficulties of mature love, and the importance of love in confronting illness and aging. From the beginning, the story picks you up and carries you along. Highly recommended!”

- Arthur Powers, author and 2014 Catholic Arts & Literature Award winner

5.0 out of 5 stars A Happy Book. A Joyous Book. You should read this book. October 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you believe in true love, the kind that one is destined for from birth, then this book is for you. If you believe in the power of love to heal and make hearts whole, then this book is for you. If you know that in life, there are emotional ups and downs that will drain us as well as teach us, then this book is for you.

Readers of all faiths and from all walks of life will be able to identify with how Eileen and Harry were put together for one glorious reason, God's "crazy love" for them. And, readers will enjoy every moment of Eileen and Harry's courtship and marriage as they journey with the couple "in sickness and in health."

Leamy fills Crazy Love with such humor and wisdom, that even when she is detailing the more somber episodes of her life with Harry, the reader will smile. This is a happy book, a joyous book. You should read this book.

It was OK, but some of it was tedious. I really didn't need to read so much "he said/she responded" text messages. I did something similar when my mother was very sick. I sent out daily emails detailing the ups and downs of her illness. But, I can't imagine it lends itself to the stuff of a book for strangers who don't have a real connection to the characters. Although there came a point where I started to feel connected to the characters in this book, it never came to the point where the connection drew much emotion from me. It kind of felt disjointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars not a good read August 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a poorly written book largely drawn from a blog written during a man's terminal illness. It may have been invaluable to his loved ones and cathartic for his wife, but that fails to make a good story. The lengthy saga contains far too much religious preaching, something one would expect from baptist evangelicals, not Catholics. I found the book both boring and depressing, only of interest as a clinical account of a terrible illness which the husband endured with great dignity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, Emotional Read November 8, 2013
By LSG
Format:Kindle Edition
You wouldn't think a memoir of this nature would be a gripping page-turner, but that is exactly what it is. I found myself reading late into the night, reading while brushing my teeth, and sneaking peeks at work. The story of how Eileen and Harry met and fell in love is sweet, funny, and suspenseful. The inclusion of pictures and letters draws you in. While I wish the story had a different ending, I really appreciated this glimpse into the truly remarkable series of events surrounding their marriage and life together.

5.0 out of 5 stars True love November 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would gladly do so. What a beautiful story of true love. It is so inspiring to see the love that God holds for us in spite of our own struggles. I read this during a period of depression and it has opened my eyes and my heart. I needed this. Thank you for sharing your story.

3.0 out of 5 stars "We're So Blessed. We Know Where God Lives." May 22, 2014
By Nora
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I commend Eileen Leamy for her honesty and integrity in telling her love story about her husband Harry. The book is written to honor him and displays her loyalty to him. She humbly tells their personal journey with his cancer.
However, I had some issues with the book, she begins her story with this prayer list to God of a husband. She then moves into many coincidences that she attributes as God working this out between her and Harry. She was certain that this was her future husband. She correlates and attributes signs, like red roses given to her as the Virgin Mary, yet another confirmation from God. The book has a cultic glorification of the Catholic Church and its relics.
I found it ironic that Jennifer (Harry's daughter) the initiator of the relationship would protest highly of their planned marriage, and even at the beginning, how Harry really showed Eileen little interest for a long time. It appeared that Eileen did the pursuing and not Harry.
From the detailed accounts of Eileen's life, she sounded like a hurting person who was desperately searching for love and security. She fell in love with Harry, long before Harry professed his love for her. They married in January of 2004, and a few short years later, Harry is diagnosed with leukemia.
This is when the book really becomes interesting and soul searching; the love between Eileen and Harry blossoms during the long battle with cancer. As the book progresses, you can only feel the tenderness grow between them. Harry dies in July of 2008, so for those short few years they develop a deep relationship with God. I believe it was then their faith soared, and the story became encouragingly beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Love is crazy good! November 24, 2013
By Stoph
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Crazy Love is the wonderful, inspirational story of how two people came together, built an idyllic life together and then, took that life down, together. God is a central player in this story as is Harry and Eileen's absolute faith in Him. The book is well written - the characters are fleshed out so thoroughly that by the end of the story you know them well and wish them well. It's a highly emotional book, not to be taken lightly but rather to be enjoyed to the fullest. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an excellent example of what faith and love and hope can do. Crazy.
