1.0 out of 5 stars Won't work on Windows7 February 13, 2013

I bought the Crazy Machines collection (three CDs), because I have already gone through all the TIM levels. I was hoping for some slightly different puzzles. Unfortunately, none of them work. After installation, I had a problem getting the program to start. Once I got that issue sorted out (after much research online), the program starts, but the cursor is invisible, making it impossible to actually use the game. I've managed to open a level, by carefully moving the mouse, and noting when a selection was 'highlighted' (not easy to see). After the level opens, however, it just doesn't work.
I visited the Crazy Machines website, and asked for advice using their 'Contact Us' link. They never replied.
If you are running anything above Win XP, don't waste your money.

The manufacturer commented on this review (What's this?)
We are aware of the issue in Windows 7 and were researching on how to fix it. In the mean time, the game launches just fine in Windows XP and Vista.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good way to waste time April 29, 2012

As in my review of Crazy Machines gold edition, these puzzles will drive you crazy.
The larger screens actually make seeing the puzzle harder till you realize you can zoom in to parts you want a closer look at.
the only complaint I have is that it takes a really long time to load.
And going up to the next level of play also entails waiting.
Then you have to go through 5 screens just to quit the game.
It Is fun though and worth the money.

Second review, after having this a while it turns out to be a better game than I first thought so I raised the star rating to 3 stars. My 9 year old son is now enjoying it though the physics are still not right, buckets should overflow, etc. and he asks a lot of questions about why it doesn't work right. Maybe that is a good learning experience for him after all. Suspension of disbelief works OK to make the game fun. I'd recommend it for a rainy day though not for a physics lesson.

--------------
The first two crazy machines were, and are fantastic! I have a 7 year old that absolutely loves to play them both! They are very easy to use and to see and learn and very easy to make really good 'contraptions' that do wild and wonderful things. I'd highly recommend 1.5 since it has all the 1.0 features and more.

Not so for 2.0, the text is the smallest I've ever seen on any computer, the menus and item selections are overly complex and they rely completely on mouse over help and not the intuitive item categories of the previous versions. Just turning a light on takes an amazing number of mouse actions compared to the one mouse click of the earlier versions. Also, the physics are ridiculous! Running water that won't fill up a bucket and can be held in the air by a rope?

Other cons: Sounds effects run when the lab is not running - this is extremely annoying, especially when you have to zoom in on the items to move them and the sound gets louder as you zoom in.

It's definitely a differently designed game from the first two - all downhill. I can't really think of any pros for the game. So, I need to sign off on this review now. I'm literally a bit physically ill from looking at the tiny, tiny, text on the screen and from trying to see what's going on. Please, don't spend your cash on this!

I bought this for my son who's 11years old. He has Crazy Machines 1 and loved it. When using Crazy Machines 2 he was very dissapointed and after tring it just a few times, doesn't even use it. The 3D stuff isn't that cool and Crazy Machines one seemed to have cooler stuff. Bummer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, but software has issues! August 8, 2014
Verified Purchase
My son absolutely loves this game. It is his favorite since he was five years old (ten now). If you or a family member are gizmo-oriented, this is definitely the game for you!

Sadly, the software itself is prone to bugs based on hardware interactions, and it's memory management is absolutely atrocious. My machine (which runs Win7-64) is leagues above the "minimum system requirements" for this game, yet there is nothing I do on that machine that hogs resources like this game does. We cannot even use some features, such as water works, in the game for very long because they bog the system down so heavily.

I feel like I'm being rather generous to give this product a three-star rating, and that is only because my son gets so much enjoyment out of it. The fun-factor for him is simply through the roof! If this says anything, our first version of this game (CM2 <not complete>) would not allow us to save progress from session to session, yet he would work through each session over and over again just to see if he could make it to some new puzzles that he had yet to see before I needed my system for something else that could not make due with whatever meager resources this game was not hogging. Now, consider that a five, six, seven, eight, etc., year old boy had the commitment to do that literally DOZENS of times. It was for this reason that I took a chance on "complete" (e.g., to gain the ability to save progress).

2.0 out of 5 stars Lost interest easily December 28, 2013

My son initially was excited to get this, but after an hour of playing he won't even consider playing anymore. He's had it for months now and only played the one time. Maybe, in time, he will get interested again but I would not recommend this unless your child reads exceptionally well, can figure out HOW to play the game without directions, and has the stamina to figure out how things work on their own.

The game itself worked fine, we did have some initial trouble loading it onto the computer, but after that it has worked well.
