5.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC FOOD AND GREAT INFO
I just received CRAZY PLATES two days ago. Afer trying just two recipes, I am SOLD on this book! The food is great, it is easy to prepare, and the whole family loves it! I am on Weight Watchers and my husband is a diabetic. The nutritional information included with each recipe makes choosing good-for-us foods a breeze. The Berried Treasure muffins are already a hit...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm a little disappointed with the recipes
This book is very well put together and thumbing through it definately got me excited about trying some of the recipes. We've tried seven recipes so far. While they were all well written and easy to follow, my husband and I just haven't been very impressed with the outcome. They haven't been terrible, but they haven't been good either. Of the seven we've tried, we've...

The Berried Treasure muffins are already a hit at our house with just one batch! I collect cookbooks, and this one is bound to become one of my most used. You can be sure I will be buying LOONEYSPOONS, also by the Podleski sisters, too

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Cookbook - AND Entertainment, January 30, 2002

This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
I received this cookbook as a Christmas present, although it was not on my list. At first it seemed like a "cutesy" type book with the same-ole same-ole receipes with different funny names to them. Like Tickle Me Elbows (tuna noodle casserrole); Forrest Gumbo (shrimp gumbo) and Sammy Salsa (mango salsa). BUT, this cookbook is a whole lot more.

The receipes are truely lowfat, easy to make, usually with normal ingredients found in a normal kitchen. They are easy to read and follow AND they turn out very tasty!!

Best of all, the cookbook is very entertaining. I've actually sat down and read the entire book!! There are tips for each receipe. Short stories about almost everything and nice cartoon drawings that add a little flair to the whole presentation.

So now, I'm using a "Low Fat" cookbook, and I had always thought it was going to be just bland food, rather than the GREAT food out of this cookbook. Highly recommend it for all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is diet food?, February 24, 2000

What a great follow-up book to Looney Spoons (even better)! The entire book is funny and light-hearted, literly. I have made the Strip T's (turkey strips), grilled pineapple and coconut rice with great success. Perfect recipe book even if you aren't on a diet. You can turn to any recipe and know that it is good for you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to cook or just wants a good laugh at food.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Low Fat Cooking, January 8, 2004
This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
I love this cookbook. I am in the process of really trying to revamp the way my family eats and this cook book, as well as Looney Spoons, is a huge hit. I have tried numerous recipes and all have been a hit, including several I used at parties where everyone asked for the recipe. The Less-On-Ya Lasagna is a fabulous, veggie loaded dish that is really good. I really like these recipes because they don't use a lot of fat free cheese or sugar free items. Those are things I call fake foods and I am not fond of low fat cooking that relies alot on those. I prefer recipes like this that add vegetables and seasonings to give the food flavor. The goofy jokes and stuff are OK, but the recipes are fantastic, easy to cook foods that your family will love.

I just tried my first recipe, "For Goodness Steak" for dinner and my taste buds are still singing! I've never had a home-cooked steak taste so good!! This recipe alone is worth the cost of the book. I can't wait to try more .. yummmmmm!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I've lost 73 pounds - and still going!, April 11, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
This book, and its companion Looney Spoons, are fantastic. Partly with the help of these two books, I have been able to lose 73 pounds since last Christmas (OK, I had a lot to lose! :)) The recipes are more delicious than I thought possible - even preferable to "regular" recipies!

My favorite from this book is the Forrest Gumbo, a terrific and extremely low fat/low calorie gumbo that anyone can put together in just a few minutes. All of the other recipies we have tried are extremely tasty and are easy to prepare as well.

A nice feature of the book is that every recipe has the fat and calorie information listed clearly at the bottom by portion, and take it from a big eater, the portions are generous. We have even lowered the fat and calorie content of several of the dishes in the book ourselves, substituting things like 99% fat free chicken broth instead of the standard chicken broth, fat free spread for butter, or egg substitutes for eggs.

Even though I have lost 73 pounds, I have a good bit more to go, with maintenance after that. This book will have a welcome place in our kitchen for years to come!

The layout is great, the information is fun to read, and so far the recipes have been DELICIOUS! This book is so colorful and entertaining, I couldn't decide whether to sit and read it all night or start cooking! VERY highly recommended whether you are into low-fat cooking or not!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have never written a review, but..., December 13, 2005
This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
this book is so easy to use and the recipes are so delicious that I am compelled to include my feedback. As someone who is not a superstar in the kitchen, when I use these recipes, I feel that I make a unique and healthy meal for my family that is always well-received. What strikes me the most about this book is that a majority of the main dish recipes include all the food groups. I have found that most of the time, the kids do not even know that they are eating vegetables. By the way, I think "Crazy Plates" is MUCH better than "Looney Spoons."

This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
As a Dietetics professional, I'm always looking for good sources for low fat recipes. This one is one of the best I have seen. Other reviewers have commented that the recipes are easy. I agree they aren't difficult, but they can be a little time consuming because many of them have a lot of ingredients. I think the number of spices and herbs used helps greatly to contribute to the great taste of the recipes, but can be a bit daunting. The results though are well worth any effort involved in putting together the recipes. The nutritional information is accurate and easy to "digest" (Pardon the pun.) and the Cooking 101 tips are helpful. I have over 200 cookbooks in my collection. Crazy Plates and Looney Spoons are the only two that have a permanent spot out in the kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars great food with good size portions, March 6, 2006

This review is from: Crazy Plates: Low-Fat Food So Good, You'll Swear It's Bad for You! (Paperback)
I'm on weight watchers and I like the weight watcher's take out tonight book but I feel the portions are just a touch small, this book however is great. The taste is good and you will actually get full plus another thing I like about the book its that it not a bunch of non fat ingredients like non fat cheese or sour cream etc... I also like that the entire book uses the same spices so you do not have to run out and buy a bunch of different spices. I've only had to purchase coriander. Plus it gives you a whole bunch of little tips and inspirations on every page. Out of the 9 low fat or weight watchers cookbooks that I own this one is by far the best.
