Book Description

When the body of a murdered teenage boy is found in the forests of northern Minnesota, FBI Special Agent Darren Lockhart is sent in to investigate. Believing this death to be another in a string of bizarre executions, Lockhart soon finds himself isolated in the north country and facing a city that not only fears the killer, but also the federal agent there to protect them. A life of chasing America's worst criminals has taken it's toll and with the end of his career looming, Lockhart has just one last chance to catch a maniac that has eluded him for over two years. Set in the beauty and serenity of northern Minnesota, "Crazytown" is a story of deception, murder, and betrayal that will change Lockhart's life forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great storyline with believable characters. January 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Fantastic storyline especially if you enjoy FBI Agent characters. Having been to northern Minnesota...I found the descriptions to be right on point. The characters were strong and believable. I got this book as a amazon free promotion but it would have been well worth the cost the author is asking! Strongly recommended and thanks to the author for the promotion day...hopefully this honest review will help spread the word about your book!

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing miscategorisation December 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've just finished Crazytown (The Darren Lockhart Mysteries). The first 80% of the book was great; a complex and interesting murder/mayhem mystery novel. Then there were glimpses of things going sideways, and by the end of the novel, it had degenerated into a bunch of silly sci-fi nonsense, left me feeling disgusted and ripped off. In my opinion, there really should have been some indication in the product description to indicate "sci-fi." If I'd known that, I wouldn't have bought it.
That being said, in all fairness the book is very well-written and would be a good choice for fans of the genre.

I picked up this book on my kindle for the heck of it. I was absolutely thrilled that I couldn't put it down. Mr. Grilz does a fantastic job of writing characters that you can not only identify with, but you can visualize them and there enviroment making it an engulfing read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder Mystery with a Sci-Fi Twist September 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story is made up of well-defined characters as the protagonist and the local law enforcement look for the murderer of a boy and others in a small town and elsewhere. I found the author had 'rounded the edges' of the FBI agent making him more human as he sought clues and searched for evidence and motive for the killing. The interactions of the agent with the local sheriff and deputy and with the subtle love interest with his B&B hostess (and sheriff's receptionist) made the story that much more interesting. The human side of the story was eclipsed by a major twist at the end as the agent closes in on the person responsible for the killings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Story, Mediocre Execution March 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story started out a bit slow for me, and I found the journal entries a bit distracting, but once I hit about the halfway point, I had trouble putting it down. I'm a nitpicker, and I did find a few misspellings and mechanics issues, but the book wasn't so littered with them that I wasn't able to focus.

In the beginning, I wondered if I would actually finish it. By the end, I was wondering if Grilz had written the second installment yet. Looking forward to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars surprisingly good read March 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to say the main reason I got this book is because it was free. I really didnt expect it to be anything special but I was pleasantly surprised. I am pretty easily bored with books which is a shame because I love to read, but this book managed to hook my attention and keep it. And I have to say the ending really threw me and was a bit jarring but that kind of worked for this book. I will definatly be looking for new books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read...good crazy!! June 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although a little confused with the epilogue, I enjoyed this quick read.
I initially guessed from the beginning what was going on and although in the end I was right there were plenty of twists and turns to make me question things.
All in all, a good start to the series. I've already purchased the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes it's crazy June 15, 2014

Despite the fantastic abilities of the criminal I found I liked the characters and most of the events were very believable. Hard to justify in a brief summary but I really do recommend this quirky book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Leading Character
A good mystery and it is hard to set aside until Crazytown is finished. One (spoiler alert here) complaint: I like the villains totally down and out, never to return!
