Gameplay

What if you were given the challenge to maneuver a race car through a flaming hoop, say 20-30-40 feet up in the air. Think you could do it? What if it had to be done with balloons? Or perhaps using so many variables that it looks like a Rube Goldberg machine? Of course this is a pretty ridiculous request, but assuming the suspension of everyday reality and belief, and an assortment of malleable if unlikely objects, could you make it happen? This is the crux of Create. Consisting of a large series of puzzle challenges tending towards the outrageous, players must use their imaginations and objects provided or already part of their in-game possessions to succeed. With success comes additional items that can be used in later endeavors, if not ruled out by the challenge at hand. Challenges are set within a variety of base game worlds that can also be customized using an in-game toolset, and player creations can also be saved, reused, edited and even shared with others online via Xbox LIVE. These can also then be reedited for additional use.

This game is very unique. It is simply about building things that each level ask of you. For example, build something that will get this toy car over the pit. And they'll give you a ramp. The game builds on that and the challenges get a little tougher but not too tough. If you choose not to do objectives, you can color the world and decorate it however you like. I have it for Xbox 360 and I do agree with some of the comment that the instructions are not real clear. Here are my instructions. If you're not doing puzzles (the numbers), the game ask for specific things shown on the top left of the screen. It'll sometimes disappear but if you move around it will pop back up. So it will ask you for props and you will have to go into your menu, press the Y (Xbox 360) or Triangle (PS3) button and put it there. You can tell by the sign at the top left how many you need to put. If you want to leave the map you're in or save, bring up the menu (Y/Triangle) and press RB (Xbox 360) or R1 (PS3). When you're doing challenges, the easiest way to use different props is to press X (Xbox 360) or Square (PS3). After you pick the specific item you have to place it. You can flip it using LT (Xbox 360) or L2 (PS3) or rotate it. Press Start to test out what you have done instead of going to the top right and hitting play button. It's easier and you can tweak things quicker. The game wasn't really advertised and the confusing buttons will have some shaking their head. However, I feel this game is a gem and that speaks a lot for a person who plays a lot of console commercial games.

This game is exactly what I expected it to be. If you read all of the in-game instructions and you aren't afraid to dig around in the menus, you'll work through the learning curve quickly. I spent two hours on the game and am pretty deep in to it.

Don't be discouraged if you don't know what you're supposed to do in a given level - there are multiple options and the game is trying to help you exercise your abstract/creative skills. While most of the puzzles are very obvious, some require a little planning and precision.

To clear up any misconceptions, this game provides you with open levels and tools you unlock through playing the game to solve puzzles, create them, share them online, and try those others have created. You decide how each puzzle or objective is completed based on recommended tools/objects. Each puzzle has a maximum number of objects you can spawn to solve it, and often using fewer objects will net a bonus, while at other times using extra objects will help.

If you like Scribblenauts or Super Scribblenauts, you'll love Create.

I bought this game for my son. I must say he is 20 years old, and this game looks like it's for children. But he really enjoys it. There's so much to do and create. Your imagination is your only limit. It is easy enough to understand for older children, but grownups will love it too. If you're looking for a game for the whole family that is not violent but will still hold your interest, buy this one.

I've had this game for about 6 months now, and it's one of my favorites. I like problem solving during the challenges and when I need a break, I'll add objects to the level. The challenges start easy, then get more and more difficult as you progress through the game. It takes practice to navigate the menus, which is why it was too frustrating for my kids to play. I think this game would be best for ages 12 through adult based on the challenge difficulty. It's a shame the menus aren't so intuitive, since younger kids would have so much fun decorating levels.

In an attempt to try to find a game that both my partner, a non-gamer, and I, a gamer, could enjoy, I bought this game. It's very visually appealing and there are all kinds of little challenges and puzzles that you solve within the game. The first night we got the game we both played it for several hours, trading off the controller. It was simple enough that she liked it, but had puzzles that were challenging enough that I liked it as well. Great game, and for the price, I'd recommend it to almost anyone.

I can't say that Create is a bad game. It's essentially functional and I've had some fun with it. But it's so much less than it should be. The challenges are all very same-y and the controls tend to be a struggle. Just getting from one level to the next can be a frustration. However, there's really nothing else like it on the 360, so if you're itching for this kind of building game and don't play anything on the PC, Create is worth picking up for cheap.

The mistake I made in purchasing this game was that my 6 year old son is an avid Minecraft player. To me this game looks nice. However, if your child has come a long way with Minecraft, do not bother with this.

We received this as a gift for my 7 year old son. Like one of the other reviewers, I don't think we get it. There is no instruction and the supposed tutorial in the game is not helpful at all. My son tried playing it, but he had to sit on my lap so that I could hold the controller with him to "play" one of the 2 things that we actually figured out how to do. Don't really get what the purpose, end game, or fun really is in the game. It's not really a painting game, not really a puzzle game, not really fun...
