This book has been a tremendous blessing to our family and an encouragement for each one of us to work harder and with more joy in the task. I highly recommend it for the whole family!! We have somewhere lost the motivation to work-that being, bringing glory to God, taking care of what He has given us and knowing that a job worth doing is worth doing well. The author uses every day simple stories to bring forth some long needed truths to the areas of work. The author dispels many of today's common thinking patterns concerning work, such as laziness, slothfulness, greediness and half-heartedness. Instead he motivates us to reach for the greater good of a job well done. I highly recommend this book to families who wish to encourage their children (and themselves) to what the true purposes of work are.

Antidote for laziness,
By
This review is from: Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men (Paperback)
One of the best things my father gave me was a work ethic. I want my kids to have it too. A good work ethic will give them choices in life and make them a pleasure to employ. Bob Schultz gives us 35 short chapters that each contain lessons in bringing out the joy and value of work.
I read Created for Work out loud to my 11 year old son. My 14 year old daughter didn't want to miss out, so she joined us. They both loved it and even requested readings on days when time was short. A book about work that an 11 and 14 year old liked? Yes. It was good for me too. Even with a work ethic, I struggle with laziness and Schultz provides the antidote. Though it's geared toward young men, all could benefit from this biblically based guide to work.

Bob Schultz has done it again. Just as in his earlier book, Boyhood and Beyond, this book is full of short lessons taught with fitting and interesting stories from his own life. We've been using these books for family study, and we're all (male and female) getting a lot out of them. Bob Schultz writes as a humble, hard-working Christian who's using the special talents God gave him, including excellent writing skills. and his books inspire us all to seek to serve the Lord in the way we conduct our lives and businesses. This is one of the best devotionals for families I've come across, and I've been suggesting it to friends who have sons from the upper elementary years and up. For those with only younger children, I'd recommend "Our 24 Family Ways, by Clay Clarkson.

One of a kind,
This review is from: Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men (Paperback)
I haven't found anything out there like this book. It is a wonderful devotional for both boys and girls, and has a way of both convicting and encouraging - but without you actually telling your kids these things yourself! I've spent evenings where my younger ones have volunteered all kinds of ideas for ways of spending their time productively. This casts sloth in a whole new light for the olders (who have entered the temptations of "teen-tiredness".) Fun gets them going, but not industry. This books puts the highlight on lives truly given over to His purposes. Wonderful aid to Godly parenting and preparation of our treasured children to face life as one of His own.

Great for girls, too!,

This review is from: Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men (Paperback)
We went through this book with our 3 daughters because we believe a good work ethic is important to girls as well as boys! Each chapter is easy to complete in one sitting and discuss. Questions at the end of the chapters spurred discussion that helped us make application in daily situations. My husband is a pastor and he felt the theology of this topic was excellent and well presented. Our daughters always wanted Dad to read another chapter! We're recommending it to all our friends!

Dear Fellow Book-Lovers: My husband and I are blessed with four sons (and, one daughter) and I am so thankful that we came across this book. It is written in such a way that makes it easy for a parent to easily read a chapter a day to the children--I do believe it would be best as a read aloud. Everyone can learn to be a better worker from this book. I liked it so much that I gave away a copy on my blog. The author is fun and wise and a good writer. "Created for Work" feels more like a conversation with a good friend than reading a book.

Best advise for Boys and Men besides the Bible,
By
This review is from: Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men (Paperback)
This book and His other,Boyhood and Beyond, are what this nation of ours needs. Since our nation changed from an agricultural, rural, family farm comunity, to a fast food inter-city one, children have had little or no responsibility around the home/farm. Learning how to joyfully accept responsiblity, respect other people and get along in the family and workplace is what this book is about. Fathers need to read this book because many of them have never learned to put up the "toys" and start being a loving provider for their families. Many grown men need to stop being boys and take their place in society, being peacemakers and profitable assets to the community. These two books are written by a MAN that GOD has helped to be just what I am describing. If you want to remain lazy and unprofitable to your family, don't read this. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A JOYFUL AND FULLFILLING LIFE. . . READ THIS AND PRACTICE WHAT YOU LEARN FROM IT!

All of Bob Schultz's books have been such an inspiration to our entire family! As a messie, this one even inspired ME (the mama!) in my homemaking. So simply convicting for the younger children even~and yet chock FULL of meat. You really can't go wrong with this or any of his other titles!!!!

This is a wonderful book to read aloud as a family and it is not only for young men but also for Mom, Dad, and daughters. We read a chapter aloud each night then discussed. We are currently reading through it again and it is just as good the second time around. Bob Schultz does an excellent job using his work experience to teach lessons that can be used in all walks of life. You will not be disappointed in this book!

I'm using this book as a read aloud for my 12 and 8 yr old sons.
Mr Schultz uses his life experiences as a carpenter to give examples in detail of Godly work ethic and the real reason we work- to serve and please our Heavenly Father. Each short chapter or lesson is so full of good material that I have reread chapters at least 2x and had wonderful discussions with our boys and my husband, each time covering a new concept. I am honored to be reading such quality material and highly recommend this book to anyone with young males in training to be Godly leaders. |
