The book was ultimately a disappointment. It might be of use to a beginner, but for anyone beyond that, it will be uninspiring...sorry!

I was also disappointed with the quality and contents of this book. The pictures, samples and description not up to the usual standard of this author. Although a nice book to look at, I have not been inspired to rush right in and make any of the cards discussed. Pity ....

This book was a real disappointment to me. I own and like several of this author's other books, but I plan to resell this one. Most of the cards used photos, which I am just not interested in. I don't think the designs are pretty, either. Even the cards without photos weren't to my taste. Might be OK for a beginner, although I'm not sure there would be enough directions for a first-time project.

I looked through the book, however I found the ideas it has I have all ready used or familized my self with. Its a good book as far as showing some techniques. The book shows you several different type of cards you can make, and you wont run out of ideas.

Frayed flannel, squashed flowers, and herniated postal persons,
By E. A. Lovitt "starmoth" (Gladwin, MI USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

I've only just begun to make my own greeting cards, and this book raises some serious questions about my new hobby:
* Why would anybody decorate a card with swathes of frayed flannel, rusty stars, old bottle caps, squashed flowers, and bits of venetian blind? * How much does one of these cards weigh when fully embellished? What are the freight charges? * Why would the author send someone a card with the word `legacy' stamped on the front? Is she including them in her will? * How about the word `simple'? * Why would anyone want to receive a card that features a Jack Russell terrier with its hindquarters shaved? I blame stream-of-consciousness authors such as James Joyce for the trend of clumping words without syntax or punctuation onto cards. This author just picked up on the fashion of making do without sentences. If your preference is for bright, bold greeting cards that are decorated with items that somehow got sucked into your vacuum cleaner's bag, "Creating Cards with Scrapbook Embellishments" is right up your alley. |
