Great Basics for Beginning Dyers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creating Color: A Dyer's Handbook (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful change from all the other dye books because it offers a series of charts that compare the relative 'strenghts' of different dye colors. This can be very important if one is looking to produce fabrics of the same basic color value. (For example, one tablespoon of fuschia does not yield the same depth of color as the same amount of jungle red.) It has many projects to lead the beginner to a full understanding of the dyeing process, and the technical aspects involved.

This review is from: Creating Color: A Dyer's Handbook (Paperback)
From the back cover: "Procion MX fiber reactive dyes are used extensively by fiber artists and others who are interested in dyeing fabrics which have lustrous color and a high degree of colorfastness and lightfastness...""...designed to serve the needs of both the beginning and more experienced dyer. All dye measuring is done with household equipment. There are time saving charts for those dyers, like quilters, who frequently dye small amounts of muslin. Formulas are provided for those dyers whose dyeing situations vary from dye session to dye sesion. And lastly, there are instructions on how to dye fabric in the washing machine." Chapters include Record Keeping, Color Mixing for Dyers, Dye Characteristics, Dyebath Ingredients, Abbreviations and Equivalencies, and Dye Color Comparison Chart. "...dye safety, setting up a dyeing area...and dyeing techniques such as color gradations. Examples accompany all discussions. The book concludes with a question and answer chapter, a suppliers list, bibliography, glossary, and an index." |
