The book includes professional sample pages from the Web, demonstrating almost every tag, along with the source code for each page and notes explaining the authors' techniques. In addition to HTML 3.2 tags, the book also demonstrates the most recent Netscape and Microsoft extensions. For help on adding the niceties, there are chapters devoted to graphics, forms, multimedia, and VRML. The author even covers the process of submitting finished pages to a variety of search engines. This book was outstanding. I had no prior knowledge of HTML before reading this book, and now I know HTML very well. It tells you how to add everything you need to add to a webpage (links, images, bulleted & numbered lists, frames, music, et cetera). It even shows an introduction past HTML like JavaScript, VBScript, Style Sheets, and CGI. Another great addition is the chapter which shows you how to promote your webpage, and even some links to free providers (some are outdated).

Bottom line -- if you are a beginner wanting to learn HTML, then this is the book for you. It is everything you need to know to start making webpages today!

I've been doing my own personal web pages for a year now and I LIVE by this book. I keep it right next to the computer at all times and I still refer back to it ALL the time. For experienced or beginners it's great! I just can't say enough good about, it's just so awesome!!!!

I found the book had lots of problems and gray areas. Although the book professes to be about creating cool web pages, the author doesn't provide the insights or design tips that would help you create a truly cool web page. If you are looking for a book that covers the basics, this one may be what you are looking for. If you want to go beyond the basics, look elsewhere. A personal favorite is William Stanek's Web Publishing Unleashed
