5.0 out of 5 stars The most enchanting and joyful book you may ever read!, November 10, 1998

This review is from: Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances (Storey's Spirit of Aromatherapy) (Hardcover)
Linda Gannon's "Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances" takes you on a mystical and highly creative journey in which you not only learn about concocting some very enticing aromas, but you also are gifted with her enchanting presentation on the mystery and history of herbal/flower folklore. For those of us who love flowers and herbs, and dabs of magic, this is one extraordinary book! I am planning to buy a number of copies for Christmas presents -- and along with the book I am going to also give a bag of homemade potpourri using one (or many!) of Linda's recipes for magical scents! In this world of zany schedules, high technology, electronic wizardry and impersonalization, this book brings us back to something warm, cozy and just darn wonderful. My congratulations to Linda, the Fairy Queen on this lovely, colorful and beautifully- illustrated book. She has surely touched us all with her sincere magic in "Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Potpourris and faerie lore blended with a magical touch, October 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances (Storey's Spirit of Aromatherapy) (Hardcover)
This is a marvelous, magical book filled with both practical information and faerie lore. The stories and legends are charming and the potpourris enchanting. Who could possibly resist wanting to create such items as "Enchanted Forest" and "Christmas Magick"? Each recipe includes finishing touches and novel methods of display. I think Ms. Gannon must truly be the Faerie Queen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fun!, November 29, 2003

This review is from: Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances (Storey's Spirit of Aromatherapy) (Hardcover)
This is such a fun book - the artwork that decorates every page is terrific, the writing style is fun, and while I've only played with a few recipes so far - I can definitely say so far so good! The book opens with an intro to faeries, the flowers of faeries, and essential oils. The it gets to drying flowers/herbs (I actually buy mine but plan to expand the gardens next spring so I might be doing some rdying next summer). There's general info on making potpourri in here like using fixatives to keep the scents etc. Then there's a great one-pager that lists the different plants and the type of scent they have so you can be creative if you want too. The recipes comprise the rest of the book and they have great names like "christmas magic", "dance of the morning nymphs" etc. On the facing page to each recipe is a little text of faerie lore pertaining to different plants that were used in the recipe. The recipes are broken out by season so as you welcome the changes of the year you can make a corresponding potpourri. The results are pretty and smell nice too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divine Scents!, June 9, 2011
By
This review is from: Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances (Storey's Spirit of Aromatherapy) (Hardcover)
Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances by Linda Gannon is a journey of the senses to a magical fairy realm. If you want to celebrate the seasons by creating enchanting scents for your home, this is a must read book! Aside from learning how to make these fairy scents, you will also learn about fairy lore and also why certain types of flowers and essential oils are used for ingredients for the potpourri.

Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances is a book that explains how to create your own scents for certain times of the year for your home. It is also a book that explains fairy lore and also why certain scents or flowers are used for certain fragrances. The fairy lore may not be the main reason you purchase this book, but it will provide many fantastic tales for you to share when someone asks about your potpourri or when you give it as a gift.

Although I was unable to make all of the types of fragrances featured in this book, I did make the "Midsummer Night's Dream" fragrance for summer. It smells absolutely divine! I can't wait to make more fragrances for the different seasons later this year.

I recommend this book for everyone who likes to make easy crafts projects that don't take up a lot of time. These fragrances are perfect for using in your own home and also sharing as gifts.

This review is from: Creating Fairy Garden Fragrances (Storey's Spirit of Aromatherapy) (Hardcover)
the book is just a bit too cutesy, and doesn't really fit in any category. It is certainly not a guide to scent or perfume blending, nor is it a book about aromatherapy. I regret spending the money on it, and plan to offer it used for the price of shipping.
