Effective techniques for talk radio programmers and talent.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creating Powerful Radio : A Communicator's Handbook (Paperback)
Geller consults some of the World's great talk radio stations from Mexico to Finland. This book summarizes the most effective and proven techniques for talk radio practitioners. The organization of the book is excellent for real-world users as it takes talk radio from theory to implementation. The most useful sections deal with focusing talent on bringing out the best in their own personalities and "being themselves." The explanations on storytelling and finding the theme within the story are vital for successful radio. This reviewer uses the book as the basic text for a group of 11 talk stations and has found it to be a key part of our success formula.

Not very well written, but there is good info,

This review is from: Creating Powerful Radio : A Communicator's Handbook (Paperback)
I have found this book to be fairly informative. It is not very well written or organized, and some of the chapters are a bit redundant. That being said, there don't seem to be many books on this subject, so you might find this one helpful. I recommend browsing through it before buying so you know what you are getting.

A "Must Read" for Radio Professionals!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creating Powerful Radio : A Communicator's Handbook (Paperback)
To counter the obviously politically biased (and incidently, INCORRECT* information contained in the) review by Booknews, this is a wonderfully easy-to-read, quickly digestible handbook for people in the "biz" written by a professional who knows her "stuff". It skips the lessons in the "school of hard knocks" with the information a radio person (talent or management) needs to survive and prosper. For those training in, considering or actively involved pursuing a career in radio, the book is a wealth of information at a bargain price.*Valerie Geller was not Rush Limbaugh's "consultant" -- she was the Program Director of WABC in New York, the "flagship" station for Rush Limbaugh's syndicated radio show. And even though their political views were often divergent, they have professional respect for one another. (Booknews: If you are going to write reviews, CHECK YOUR FACTS FIRST -- a cardinal rule of reporting. But then, if you'd actually READ the book, you'd KNOW that already!)
