This review is from: Creating Their Own Space: The Development of an Indian-Caribbean Musical Tradition (Paperback)
Ramnarine's book on the chutney music of Trinidad and Tobago is only the second book on this unique and recent Indo-Caribbean popular and traditional form (after Peter Manuel). I really enjoyed reading her work, which presented a more clear representation of East Indian music and how it functions as both an industry and an expression of community spirit. Her writing is very accessible for both the scholar and enthusiast. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in gathering a more complete picture of Trinidad's culture and music.
