As a classically trained pianist and composer, Anita injects a powerful but pure and captivating performance, both vocally and on piano. With Kruse’s Scottish family connection, it is no surprise that this album has taken on a somewhat Celtic flavour. Creation Flight features an exciting variety of unique instruments, including Balinese and Peruvian flutes, Chinese pipa, bodhran (a Scottish drum), sparingly blended with subtle keyboards, bass, guitar and percussion. Painted throughout the album is a colourful portrait of moods and feelings, ranging from medium tempo classical pop hooks to slower and somewhat emotional pieces. Combining classical and modern folk pop styles into a unique blend, the overall production quality of the album is truly excellent. Robbie Parrish, who produced the cd, has achieved a neutral, well defined balance retaining much of the original dynamics of each instrumental and vocal performance. If anything, it is this acoustical purity that sometimes leaves a slightly “cold” and “earthy” feel to certain tracks, although more often or not this helps the listener to focus even more so on the performances within. This purity further extends to Kruse’s own voice, making comforting yet captivating listening with each phrase or lyric clearly defined within the stories told. Included with this cd is a full colour glossy booklet containing the lyrics together with a selection of beautiful photography of Anita in various Natural settings. Combined with the music, this colourful imagery helps to conjure up mystical images of reflection, thought, joy and celebration. In summary, Creation Flight is a unique album combining contemporary spirituality, strong vision and inspired performances. Recommended as a treasure in any collection.
