4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing
It is a refreshing change to see creationists coming up with sensible and logical commentary that is scientifically sound, yet almost irrefutable. I very much enjoyed this book. Inspiring especially for those of us surrounded with evolutionists or atheists that choose to believe almost anything else but creation. A good read as is anything by Morris. Dane Thomas

I just finished this book after taking nearly two weeks to read it (highly unusual for me). 5.0 out of 5 stars Truly couldn't put it down!, July 18, 2009
This review is from: Creation and the Second Coming (Paperback)
This weekend I finished reading Henry M. Morris' Creation and the Second Coming. Tim LaHaye is quoted on the back cover saying that he couldn't put this book down... "yeah, right," I thought as I started this 191 page book. I was looking forward to reading it, and it did look interesting, but I was pretty sure I'd be able to put it down.

Wrong.

I've been on a bit of a prophecy kick lately, and I also love creation science and teachers who can tie the big picture of the Bible together in an understandable way. This book covered all of those bases, and did it in a very conversational and understandable manner!

Morris is well known in creation science circles as the author of the classic The Genesis Flood, and he has also written a commentary on the book of Revelation. Combine these two areas of personal study and expertise, and it makes Creation and the Second Coming a unique and insightful read.

As the book states, in order to understand the end, we must understand the beginning. With this premise, Morris weaves together an argument for Christ's imminent return based on a vast overview of Biblical prophecy, discusses "current" world events in light of prophecy (this book was published in 1991, so these sections are dated but still insightful), and gives his unique perspective on what Christ's millennial kingdom and New Jerusalem may be like. I read this book in two days, highlighting and marking frequently as I went... and I had many "aha!" and "interesting..." moments along the way!

One of the parts of this book that I most enjoyed was Morris' look, from a Christian scientific perspective, at how the creation was groaning under the curse, and how it very well might be restored to antediluvian (pre-flood) state for the millenial kingdom. He uses Scripture and his scientific understanding of the pre-flood world to paint a very fascinating picture.

Another unique perspective Morris had that I have not read elsewhere is how he connects evolutionary thought, both atheistic and pantheistic, back to Nimrod, the tower of Babel, and ultimately Babylon! His overall understanding of world religions and worldviews is intriguing, even if not all readers will agree with him! (And I am quite certain that not all would!)

Even as he discusses world events, the future Antichrist, the geological changes that the earth might undergo through the tribulation, etc, Morris is quick to state that we cannot be dogmatic and that prophecy is notoriously difficult to completely and accurately understand before the events take place. His humility and yet willingness to "intelligently speculate" were much appreciated by this reader!

One comment I would make is that this book contains a lot of brief references to prophecies found throughout the Scriptures. If you are somewhat new to learning end-times prophecy, this book would probably not be the best one to start with. Also, the fact that it was written in 1991 makes it quite dated when discussing "current" events in the middle east. Much has been happening in recent years that is pivotal to discussing the signs of Christ's coming.

If you are interested in prophecy and creation science, this book has your name all over it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Read!, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Creation and the Second Coming (Paperback)
Dr. Henry Morris, who was an esteemed expert and author on creationism, connected the facts of creation from Genesis with the prophecies that point to the second coming of Christ in his book "Creation and the Second Coming." Dr. Morris highlights the importance of looking at scripture as a whole in order to more fully grasp and appreciate the events that are leading to Christ's return.

Like other doctrinally-sound books on end times prophecy, Dr. Morris explained the specific events that are to happen before the triumphal return of Christ. Unlike the aforementioned types of books, Dr. Morris linked these prophetic truths to the very beginning of creation and explains that God has a plan that was put into motion at the very beginning of time.

I found "Creation and the Second Coming" not only an insanely-interesting read, but an important book to pass on to other Christians. Prophecy makes more sense when understood within the context of God's grand scheme. It's both refreshing and reassuring!

4.0 out of 5 stars Respectful tone, without that "I have all the answers" feel to it, July 31, 2011
This review is from: Creation and the Second Coming (Paperback)
I've had the chance to read Creation and the Second Coming by Henry Morris here recently, and this is a unique book. End Times prophecy, of course, you can find all over the place. Creation resources are pretty common now too. But combining the two? End Times prophecy in light of the Creation account? I'm sure I've not seen that before.

This book was a nice change of pace for me aesthetically -- a normal-sized font with some actual white space on the page. That made for a pleasant reading experience.

I'll start off with my biggest "issue" with the book... that being that it was written in 1991, which was a bit jarring in all the talk about "current events" in the Middle East. Had I realized what "current" meant before I started reading, things would have gone a lot more smoothly.

One thing I really appreciated about this book was that I never really felt that Dr. Morris was telling me that he had it all figured out and this is exactly the way it is. The tone was more of a friendly (yet serious) chat where Dr. Morris is laying out his studied and educated guess as to how various prophecies are being fulfilled (or are going to be fulfilled), along with carefully explaining why he believes that.

On many of the issues (like who is the Antichrist) he talks about what the church has believed over the centuries, without belittling those beliefs. In fact, when speaking of Nero being thought to be the Antichrist, his parenthetical statement is "naturally enough." I don't know, it just felt like he respected the early church, even though their interpretation of that particular prophecy has clearly been demonstrated to have been erroneous.

Respectful. And open to the idea that later on, biblical scholars could be pointing out where he missed the mark. That sums up the overall tone of this work.

I'm glad I've had the opportunity to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creation and the Second Coming by Henry M Morris, July 4, 2011
This review is from: Creation and the Second Coming (Paperback)
Creation and the Second Coming is unique among both Creation and Prophecy genre's in that it shows how the two are intertwined. Morris shows from Scripture that in order to understand the end-times you must understand the beginning.

Morris covers topics such as evolution, Darwinism, slavery, apostasy, occultism, and even science and technology, and shows how they correspond to the end-time events.

Morris also steps through the end-time events such as Gog and Magog, Israel becoming a nation, Babylon, the seven-year tribulation, Daniel's 70th week, the two witnesses, the image of the beast, the woman in the wilderness, the anti-christ, the millennium, the final judgment, and more, and shows how this war of Satan's began at the beginning.

This is primarily a book on prophecy, but instead of only focusing on the end-times Morris shows events in history, such as the trouble in the Middle East, and how they all tie together with end-time events. Morris shows how the signs that are given in Scripture of the second coming directly stem from humanism. Morris even explains why we can't know the time of the rapture.

This book is a fascinating look into end-time events. I was especially interested in the points about science. This book is much needed because it not only covers the `how' of the end-time, but also covers the `why'. Without the `why', the purpose of the tribulation and second coming loses its impact. I highly recommend Creation and the Second Coming by Henry Morris.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could use some updating, July 1, 2011

This review is from: Creation and the Second Coming (Paperback)
I just finished this book after taking nearly two weeks to read it (highly unusual for me). I was at first intrigued by it because I have always been deeply interested in biblical prophecy, but am not very educated in the subject. The book of Revelation has always been a struggle for me on my own, so I look for help when I can get it! This book is different from many other books on prophesies of the last days because it lays out in a very detailed, straightforward way how Revelation not only explains to us the events that will unfold, but also shows how even at the end of days, everything relates back to the BEGINNING of days, when God created everything.

I have to admit that the first half of this book was slightly dry. I struggled through it. Although the content was interesting, it was written with a textbook style that I just could not relate to. The second half, however, changed things for me and grabbed my attention in such a way that I had trouble putting the book down! I don't necessarily think that the writing style changed, but to me the content had me captivated. Dr. Morris laid out the rapture, tribulation, and the 1,000 year reign of Jesus in such a way that quite honestly had my heart pining for that day when He returns!

All in all, this is a great read for anyone wanting to learn more about the prophesies in Revelation and how they relate to the Creation and the last days. I do feel that I should point out that this book was first published in 1991, so some information is slightly outdated.
