5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Thinking Toy
My daughter just turned 9 and had received a small Ello kit a few months prior in her Easter basket. I didn't really *get* it until she showed me the display at the toy store.

I was pleasantly surprised by the price and bought her two sets for her birthday - a people set and the larger Ellopolis...she loves them.

What I love is that this isn't a brainless toy...

I bought this set for my daughter right after she turned 5 last Christmas. She was excited to open it, but was somewhat overwhelmed by the number of pieces. Daddy took over and built the house, while she built the people. Unfortunately, she thought the people were creepy looking and they fell apart when she tried to play with them, so this toy has been in its box (minus...

What I love is that this isn't a brainless toy associated with a movie, TV show or cartoon character. It requires thought and creativity. I appreciate that the pictures are "ideas" and not detailed plans. Legos are great - but how creative is it to buy a kit and build it precisely according to plan?

There are small pieces but no more so than Legos. Hayley has a plastic bin that she works out of - larger enough to hold pieces she doesn't want to disassemble and parts she has yet to use.

My soon to be 6 year-old daughter loves this! At first, she couldn't do without the pamphlet with example creations - she felt a little overwhelmed by all the tiny pieces. After about a week, she allowed her imagination to be free. She's even constructed playsets for her tiny Polly Pocket dolls, thereby incorporating her existing toys with Ello. The Ello system is an ingenious idea and expands the capabilities of those other playthings that might be buried at the bottom of the toybox. And the best thing of all, is that I can spend many long periods playing with her, and genuinely enjoy each second of it!

When I saw this on a commercial, my sisters (6 and 8) and I thought it was stupid, only because the commercial was.
Then, my 8 year old sister got this at our birthday party. We all thought "Oh god, the stupid toy" But then we opened it.
We didnt know how to make the people or attach the walls for a house at first, but my 6 year old sister found out how to make the people and i found out how to make houses. Then, surprisingly, we were having fun with the set.
Now it is one of our favorite toys, with 4 characters we made up with the people: Lofatta the teen, Tiny D (Danielle) the preschooler, Idiotic the dumb dad and jenny the mom, and we even made 2 dogs (they look nothing like dogs) Frody and scotty

I highly recommend ELLOPOLIS set to any girl ages 6-96 who like to use their imaginations because thats what this toy is all about!

My daughter is 8 and not too much holds her attention. This product keeps her busy for hours on end!! She loves it. The only "problem" is she keeps wanting more sets, and wants to buy sets for all of her friends.

I think this is a great set for older little girls who are past doll babies but not yet preteens ar teens.

I bought this set for my daughter right after she turned 5 last Christmas. She was excited to open it, but was somewhat overwhelmed by the number of pieces. Daddy took over and built the house, while she built the people. Unfortunately, she thought the people were creepy looking and they fell apart when she tried to play with them, so this toy has been in its box (minus the pieces that rolled away) untouched for about 10 months. I'll probably take it out again soon to see if her interest has grown, but I think I'm more likely to invest the extra money in a Lego Belville set. (My 33 year old husband, however, had a blast with this toy).

My eight year old daughter loves this playset. She likes lego too but I think she likes the idea of having a building set geared towards girls. She builds all kinds of neat things with it including stables for her barbie horses, houses, and even jewelry. cool toy.

This wonderful toy was given to my 6 year old girl for Christmas last year (2003). She loves it and we (the parents)do too! This is the ONLY building/construction toy she has ever been interested in, and we are thrilled with how often she plays with it and what she makes with it. Ello encourages creativity, design and building in a very fun way! Now we're buying one for every birthday party our daughter goes to. In her words "Ello rocks!".

My 7 yr old daughter received this for a gft and she just loves it. It's all about using your imaganaiton. There are no instructions. She has made so many things including a micraphone for the ello people to sing. I even love to play with her. The only drawbacks is you have to be carefull with the pieces since they are small. I also can see kids under 6 having some difficullty putinng the pieces together. All in all it's a great toy.

The ello-opolis playset is a great gift at Christmas time, birthday, and or any holiday of the year. I would reccomend this item of play for any young (8-14) girl who loves barbie, and other trademark dolls. I am an 12 year-old girl. Just like that. Once i saw the commericial for Ello. I thought. Hey, that's pretty cool. I told my mommy and when we went to Wal-Mart, she said hey, this is pretty cool, would like a set? I told her that I would love to have them. She told me that she thought that they would be a good "project" for me to do. But, project for me is PLAYTIME! SO, parents who are reading this, get your daughter some Ello's today!

4.0 out of 5 stars ELLO is fun but has some Drawbacks, April 2, 2003

I bought this at the request of my daughter for her 7th birthday. I think the idea is GREAT and it can build on creativity but it has many drawbacks.
-The pieces are small and are a choking hazard if there are younger siblings.
-The instruction book needs to provide some more specific ideas.
-Your investment will be greater than one set. With this particular set (110 pieces)my daughter was able to create four "ello people" a table and a chair with some misc. pieces remaining. If you plan on making jewerly for permanent use you will definately need more. Also, count on losing pieces because they are small. Plan on spending [more money] to have a decent supply of building stuff plus stickers.
-The assembly may be difficult for younger kids (5-6+).
-My daughter encountered particular difficulty with keeping the hair on the different characters.
She loves it but I'm not sure the value is there.
