5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME resource!!!!
I recently bought this book from Amazon, and have used it almost every day since I bought it! I have been a school counselor for 8 years, and wish that I had this book from my very first day. The activities, ideas, forms, and projects are ALL AWESOME! I have used this resource not only for individual children but also for groups, as well as to send home for homework. My...

1.0 out of 5 stars No as creative as it could be
After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to using this book in my elementary school counseling internship. As it turns out, it is just mainly a bunch of worksheets to copy, all containing information you should have learned in your counseling program. In a pinch, it might provide the school counselor with an activity for a session but, really, that is not what...

My students seem to enjoy the activities, and really get the message for why they are using them. The book is set up into a very easy to use format. There is a section for forms, relationship building/ getting to understand the problem, self-esteem, anger, divorce, grief, school problems, behavior contracts, and MUCH MUCH more...I cannot recommend this book enough! If you can only buy one resource, this is the one to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Conversation Starters...., October 28, 2007
This review is from: Creative Approaches for Counseling Individual Children in the School Setting (Paperback)
This book covers a wide variety of topics and provides many quick and easy activities that can provoke theraputic conversations and processing. While the themes and inverventions are not Earth shattering in their uniqueness, they are presented in an appealing and effective way. I would recommend this book for beginning counselors and those counselors looking to put a new spin on familiar topics.

This book is amazingly helpful for the new Guidance Counselor, or for the more seasoned one. The referral forms for infants, are simple and most suitable for the age group. For the older students, there are age-appropriate versions.

Everything that we might possibly need to have, or know, to set up an effective, efficient Counselling service, is included - and we are free to copy and use them. The tips are invaluable!

Thank you, so much, for this book! I will definitely be using it, and recommmending it to my colleagues!

5.0 out of 5 stars counseling book, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Creative Approaches for Counseling Individual Children in the School Setting (Paperback)
This book is an excellent resourse for guidance counselors to use in schools!. Pages are easily reproductable. It includes many group activities that I found very useful. I wish it came in a format that could be used with older students (middle/high school), but I am able to improvise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous!!!, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Creative Approaches for Counseling Individual Children in the School Setting (Paperback)
Hardly a day goes by that I don't use one of the ideas from this book. My students have positive responses and their teachers often comment about the effectiveness of the strategies. If I could keep only one book from my office, this one would be it. It is the best book I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good resource for counseling kids, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Creative Approaches for Counseling Individual Children in the School Setting (Paperback)
This book is a good buy. It can be a little cheesy, but it incorporates a lot of concrete ways to convey information to kids that assist them in internalizing anger management, social skills, etc. Lots of worksheets. Great as a quick resource for the child therapist.

Great book from a great author and having the cd is wonderful for printing. Many of the ideas could also be adapted for use with a small group.
