the two reviews below criticising this card are written by the same person. if you look around this person has written one star reviews of almost all new creative lab products using the same language, eg: "for crying out loud I am a computer engineer."this is one of the best card combo's on the markjet and professional reviewers say so. if the person below is learnign how to use a computer and installing their first card (and that is clearly the case from the "format" comments), they should take a breath and think about their own issues, not those of creative labs.

I picked this card up for its versatility, and it delivers on all fronts! I replaced my cheap comp usa Envy 24 card with this, and all I can say is "WOW!"Being a guitarist, I needed a card that has 1/4" inputs, preferably something with very low latency (time from hitting a note to hearing the processed signal, if you're unfamiliar with it) Granted, the old card was $20.00 US, and it did its job very well for the time, but this one is truly king of the mountain. I coupled this with Creative Labs 7.1 speakers, and can truly say, this card is far and away, the best on the market, even if it came out 4 years ago. If you're a guitar player, and looking to get the signal from the guitar to the computer, this is the way to go! Just for the record, I've tried plugging my guitar into the mic input of my old card (it sounded like trash!) along with using one of those 1/4" input to USB cables, and, although slightly better, still didn't do the trick (sound was VERY distorted, and not in a good way) so that had to go, leaving me with this. It also comes with a handy game port plug, or, as most musicians know it as, a MIDI port, allowing for connection of your old MIDI gear to this beast. Setup was a breeze, and the only strange thing is that the card takes an output from your power supply, which can be a little tricky to connect, but it should be easy for all but the most novice computer geeks to get set up. Overall, this is an amazing leap forward with your sound, and I highly recommend you get this if you're willing to drop the money on it!

Great Sound Card, Poor Music File Format,

This sound card puts out great sound, much better than Windows Media Player or any other Player I've tried. It has many Audio adjustments so you can have your own sound studio. The Black Box that comes with it seems like overkill and I think most people do not even need it. This obviously adds to the cost. This could probably be rated 5 stars except for the Music File Format. I't's poor compared to the Windows Media Player

This sound card generates good quality sound from your PC. It has many Audio adjustments, which puts great effects to your music. The External Box that comes with it is very handy if you wish to connect some other gadgets or instruments to it (e.g. an external CD player, Guitar, Keyboard, Microphone etc.). This obviously may be a requirement for those who buy these kinds of cards. I gave 4 stars not because of the performance of the card. But you need to know little bit of technical side if you are going to install it yourself. I had to struggle a lot to find the power outlet of the system to be connected to the sound card for it to power the external unit. It would have been easier, if it had its own power source. It doesn't have a USB connection, which is not a problem. Apart from that, everything is very good. Have fun!

I have always used Creative Sound cards as far back as they began selling them. They are always robust with excellent quality and features. I have had to deal with technical support a few times over the years, and though they could stand some improvement, it far surpass some other companies I have had to deal with. All in all, this is a good buy.

This card looks very fine on paper en sounds also pretty good. The only problem is that the card is nor working properly in my system.I have four western digital 740 sata disks in my system this sound card picks up noise when i reading or writing to the disks this is very disturbing. I replaced the card with another simpler card and everything works oke.

The guy before me is completely correct. I received this card and installed it in my board, tried to load the drivers but I kept getting the "Blue screen of death." By this time I was thinking it must be win2k(BTW, I did have SP2). I formatted my whole hard drive and put XP Pro on with all updates SP1 and all. I loaded the drivers and everything was going smoothly, it recognized the card and said it was working properly. So I go to test and it doesn't work, at all. So then I formatted again to get a fresh start and the same exact thing happened. I have the Soyo Dragon Platinum MB w/ P4 2.4 GHz. If you have the same chipset I do or close to it, look elsewhere. The customer support is terrible and they make it seem like you're the idiot and didn't install it right or anything. A complete waste of time, I'm sending this nightmare back and getting a Hercules digifire.
