5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!
This book is perfect for non-cake decorator folks - if you have never even iced a cake - this book will have you making and decorating cakes like a pro. The directions are simple and so many cute and simple ideas - no elaborate gumpaste figures - I don't know about you - but just the sound of "gumpaste" makes me want to hurl. I know some of these big shot cake...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing
As I write, I'm aware that my review is very different from the majority of others here. I have many cake / cupcake / cookie decorating books and this is the weakest by far. It's pretty much a one-trick pony, with all designs based on the author's own icing technique. 5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!, May 9, 2007
This review is from: Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make (Hardcover)
This book is perfect for non-cake decorator folks - if you have never even iced a cake - this book will have you making and decorating cakes like a pro. The directions are simple and so many cute and simple ideas - no elaborate gumpaste figures - I don't know about you - but just the sound of "gumpaste" makes me want to hurl. I know some of these big shot cake decorators use them - and I know it is a very difficult skill - but I have no need to mold a Navity scene out of gumpaste - but to decorate a cute cake for a party - YES! I have every cake/cookie decorating book - out there - hundreds - and I love them - and this book will be one of the most valued in my collection - because everything in there is doable!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Cakes I can REALLY Make! And a DVD too!, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make (Hardcover)
This is the first cake decorating book with a training DVD that gives people hope they can be a decorator. Every cake is possible with my busy life and limited budget. I don't have to go hunting for supplies, everything can be found locally. The author, Jill Foster gives more than sixty cake ideas for every holiday, celebration and theme party ideas.
And the best part - NO fondant and gumpaste! HOORAY!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Cake Decorating Book I have seen!!!!, April 13, 2007
This review is from: Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make (Hardcover)
FINALLY!!! A cake decorating method and book that not only offers creative ideas for cakes BUT ALSO taught me a technique that I can easily understand and more importantly DO myself..over and over again. The DVD that came with the book was also VERY helpful because I could see how to do it but it also proved to me that it can be done quickly and easily. I really liked the fact that the author was generous and gave about 60 cake ideas...what a great selection. What I also liked about the book was that all of the cake decorating ideas used materials that I can get at my local Walmart...and probably any "like" store. My husband even used the ideas and techique to surprise me with a cake decorated by him. That has never happened.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and it is a great gift item too for Friends, Mothers, kids, Busy professionals and even fathers..Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift, May 24, 2007

We were given a copy of "Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make" and were struck by the presentation - step-by-step guidance both in word form and on a DVD. Add to that Jill Foster's creativity and you have a package that brings simplicity and fun to cake decorating. We bought 5 copies ourselves to give as gifts to friends and relatives who still have families at home and reason to celebrate birthdays, holidays, showers and other occasions. Even if you don't see yourself decorating cakes, you can make points with others who will by giving a copy of the book to them as a gift. We have done that and the feedback has been very positive and the gratitude have been forthcoming.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing, April 3, 2009

As I write, I'm aware that my review is very different from the majority of others here. I have many cake / cupcake / cookie decorating books and this is the weakest by far. It's pretty much a one-trick pony, with all designs based on the author's own icing technique. I found the vast majority of designs to be uninspiring and old-fashioned (I thought the book might appeal more to older people?). All designs were based on a combination of icing styles and candy/ sweets primarily available in the USA. The only cake I would have felt proud about presenting at a party is the one that made it on to the front cover (which is why I bought the book and obviously how the saying 'never judge a book by its cover' came about!). I really felt I had to post this review to counteract all the other ones, in the hope that I can save someone else some money. I'm going to donate my copy to the local library - at least then someone else won't have to pay for it!. Personally I'd recommend any of the Australian Women's Weekly range of children's cake / party books (Kids' Perfect Party Book, Kids' Little Party Cakes, Kids' Party Cakes).

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Great!, July 12, 2007
This review is from: Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make (Hardcover)
This book is great! I suddenly decided that I wanted to decorate cakes and after practicing with this book I am on my third cake and they look just like the ones in the pictures!! I really liked that it came with a DVD, that gave me a little extra confidence being able to know that I was doing it right!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome!!, March 24, 2010

If you want to create cakes to delight the special people in your life, this is it. Using writing movements to make borders, etc. is an ingenious idea since everyone already knows how to make "a", "e", and "c" (and all the other letters, too!). I made "Sweet Lullaby" on page 100, a darling cake with a sleeping baby doll under a blanket. The expectant mother was thrilled with this inventive cake. And the rest of the ladies raved about it,too! I changed the colors to please the mother-to-be, and I used my own icing recipe which uses very little sugar. The book is great to jump-start the brain. The creative juices flow, beautiful cakes result and the recipients are blessed. To God be the glory, great things He has done!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps a little simple for my taste, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make (Hardcover)
This cake decorating book works on the premise that we all can write or pipe our letters with our eyes closed and puts together several projects using just that premise. Promising but sadly for me not very special. Could be useful to someone just starting out with cake decorating. But I have to say the how to jazz up cake mix section to me, well, it just lost me there. Even then, the basics of getting the cake right as in icing it properly so the decorations have a great base was a bit light on. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

5.0 out of 5 stars beginners, December 31, 2011

This book is great for beginners. The illustrations and detail lessons will guide you through the assembly of your cakes. There is a cd in the back of the book. This will help those of you who are visual and audio learners as I am. The cakes are creative and I can't wait to start baking.
