Patti's Best Yet!,
By
This review is from: Creative Cloth Explorations: Adventures in Fairy-Inspired Fiber Art (Paperback)
Wow! What can I say? This book is filled with fantastic techniques, and with excellent photo's to help you do the projects. Even though the book is on the "flat" object any of the techniques can be used in doll making. Patti is known for her doll making, especially faces, and this book includes some flat dolls.
The final chapter shares how the reader can make a friendship fan. This was inspired by Lisa See's book "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". Patti also shares a friendship journal and many ways to create ways of keeping friendships alive. I don't simply like this book, I love this book!

I have every one of Patti's books and loved all of them. This one, however, is definitely not for people who like dimensional dolls. Everything is flat. Most of the projects are mini quilts with dolls on them (either the whole body or just the upper portion). I doubt I will use this book as much as I have used her other books since I like dimensional dolls. I don't think the projects in this book and the pictures in the gallery portion of this book are as nice as her other books. They really don't inspire me like her other books.

Outside her comfort zone,

Patty Calea has outdone herself. She has been he authority on dolls and doll making for years, but now her wonderful immagination has taken a leap out of the box. I am a fabric and fiber artist "wanna be" and she has taught me so much about dolllmaking and using fiber and fabric, but this book is a real challenge and I hope I can live up to her example. I hope she continues this trend, it is a wonderful way to go.

Love This Book,

I have been waiting for this book!! It is for the person, like me, who wants to work with flat dolls, not demensional dolls. It is beautiful and full of wonderful ideas. The patterns of the dolls are clear and easy to duplicate. I can't draw, but can color quite well. Patti takes you step by step through the process of making a fiber art book. I am not interested in that, so I enlarged the Fairy on the cover 300% and made a 30X36" wall hanging. She is holding a butterfly, not a book. This book has my creative juices flowing and I am off doing a second one.

i love patti culeas cloth dolls. i own all of her books and most of the dolls i make are from her patterns but i did not realize that this book was based on her tomes. the projects are embellished flat doll pages.. the pictures are nice, lots of glitter and color in the pmc style. if you love flat dolls then this is a must have book!

This book is amazing. Like her other doll making books it includes works by other artists. It is both a how to and and inspirational. The photos of the artists works are eye candy. This presents a nice alternative to making 3-d dolls

For the quilter...,
This review is from: Creative Cloth Explorations: Adventures in Fairy-Inspired Fiber Art (Paperback)
This is a great book for the advanced art quilter who doesn't want to make dolls...not for the art doll maker who no longer wants to make quilts. An interesting read, none-the-less.

I thumbed through the book at the bookstore but wanted it on the kindle. The book has good ideas but DO NOT buy the kindle version, Some pages are scanned and so small they are unreadable. The pictures are not in color which is needed to get a real sense of the projects.

I paid extra postage to have this book sent to Baja California Sur, Mexico! It was well worth the extra $$! I have all of Patti's books and this was another wonderful addition to my collection. The book is chock full of wonderous "eye candy" and lots of great ideas.
