2.0 out of 5 stars Some good ideas
There are some good ideas in the book, but some of these ideas are free on the website provided in the book. There is also a sample in the intro pages of the book about a pillow made from a design on a tissue box, but no instructions on how to replicate the project.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S ABOUT TIME, May 21, 2006
This review is from: Creative Computer Crafts: 50 Fun and Useful Products You Can Make with Any Inkjet Printer (Paperback)
I love this book. It has something for everyone in it. Here is a book that finally really shows you how to do these crafts, and even gives you tons of templates to use. She is very technically crafty but puts it in beginners terms they can understand and also shows things on different programs. I loved many of the tips and tricks, like full bleeding envelopes, and printing on an envelope flap. Many of the items in the book are so very different from the usual computer crafts that there most definitely has to be a gift for even the hardest to buy for person. The gifts are so different anything from clocks, and photo plates, to photo candles, and of course that beautiful carousel on the cover. No matter what level the crafter is at this book is for them. So if you have a friend that crafts and has a computer there is sure to be something that would be on their level and interest, I have it myself and am thinking of some for gifts. That way they won't want to borrow mine - and I won't have to worry about losing my copy of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, creative crafts with great directions., May 11, 2006
This review is from: Creative Computer Crafts: 50 Fun and Useful Products You Can Make with Any Inkjet Printer (Paperback)
Computer Crafts have really grown up! When AllCrafts.net began 5+ years ago, Computer Crafts was one of our original pages, but the book and project pickings were always a bit slim. Well, we updated that page a few weeks ago and it's full to bursting. This book is another example of how far computer crafting has come!

In the past, I've found that computer crafts books were hard to recommend. They often were outdated or not very useful because they gave directions for just one program and the projects were not so interesting. Well, I'm happy to find a book that I can heartily recommend. The 50 projects in this book will amaze you in their creativity, and the instructions are general enough to use with any good desktop publishing program.

Some of the projects do require special papers, and the appendix lists sources. Besides, how else could you make scratch-off tickets, stemware shrink charms, or decorative mirrors, to name a few? There are many unusual cards and fabric printing projects. They have great directions and lots of uses. Other projects are definite head-turners:

-Revolving Musical Carousel
-Baby Bib Birth Announcement
-Stained Glass Votive Holder
-Rainbow Easter Basket
-Transparent Pyramid Boxes
-Wedding Lights
-Matchbook Mints

There are three introductory sections to this book, covering interesting topics. The author of this book is a pioneer in computer crafting and explains her journey and the maturing of computer crafts in a very readable beginning. Next, she discusses computer crafts supplies. The explanations of different printers, scanners and software is detailed but not too technical. I like how she gives a range of suggestions for hardware - good, better, and best.

Once we've mastered a craft and invested in the tools and supplies, we often wonder if we can sell our crafts. The third chapter gives a thorough overview of where and how to sell your creative output. She speaks with experience, and crafters will enjoy such good info on this topic.

If you've got a hankering to turn out colorful and creative items from your inkjet printer, there isn't a better book out there. I'll have alot of fun with this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Computer Crafting Book for the Technically Challenged, June 3, 2006
This review is from: Creative Computer Crafts: 50 Fun and Useful Products You Can Make with Any Inkjet Printer (Paperback)
I love crafting, but never realized how many wonderful items I could make with just my computer and printer! I am not technically savvy, but with this book and its easy to follow instructions, I created beautiful invitations, party favors and more! Its is so easy and the projects really are unique. I received so many compliments on my "creations." I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys crafting. You do not have to be a computer geek to LOVE this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Than Just Computer Craft Projects, July 20, 2006

This review is from: Creative Computer Crafts: 50 Fun and Useful Products You Can Make with Any Inkjet Printer (Paperback)
This book by Marcelle Costanza is more than just 50 computer craft projects. It is packed with useful information for the beginner and advanced computer crafter. Costanza begins with the background and history of computer crafts, the growth of computer crafting techniques and the popularity of computer crafts on the web. Next, she discusses the tools you will need to get started such as a computer, printer, software, special papers, inks, scanner and digital camera. She covers what is available on the market and what to look for when choosing the best equipment for your needs. She also gives some useful tips that she has discovered over the years.

One thing that makes this book stand out from the others on this topic is the section about starting your own computer crafts business. Costanza shares her experiences and knowledge gained while starting her own business and discusses what options you have available as you make those startup decisions.

The main part of the book is the step-by-step instructions for the 50 craft projects. Here you will find some favorites such as a candy bar wrapper, note pad and memory book. But you will also enjoy some projects you may not have considered before such as a Barbie doll outfit and a revolving musical carousel. There is also a thorough list of computer craft websites, communities and suppliers.

Marcelle Costanza is a long time traditional and computer crafter and started her online business, The Crafty PC, in 2000.

I checked this book out of the library rather than buying it, thankfully. Virtually every pattern in this cheesy book is available on the author's (equally cheesy) website for FREE, with links to buy materials to make the projects directly from the author. How genius. The information in this book is so fundamental that it is laughable, and easily available for free on the internet with minimal effort. This is just a really dumb book.
