5.0 out of 5 stars Dated, but still beautiful and entertaining, October 3, 2006
This review is from: Creative Computer Graphics (Hardcover)
This was the classic "coffee table" book about computer graphics art and technology in the year 1984. It remains, in my opinion, one of the most ENTERTAINING books on computer graphics. The book is full of pictures, including big, beautiful screen shots from early films like "TRON" and "The Last Starfighter". It's a very easy read, with large text and simple explanations of graphics methods such as fractals and smooth polygon shading. There's also a pretty good discussion of the early history of the field, including pioneers like John Whitney, Sr. and Dr. James Blinn.

A lot of the images in the book are abstract, and most are not photo-realistic, due to the software and hardware limitations of that era. Still, I find them beautiful and compelling and a reminder of what people were able to accomplish with the relatively clumsy tools they had available at that time.

Overall, an outdated book but still a fine read.
