Book Description

March 1, 2012

Treasured personal possessions are what turns a house into a home, but finding ways to display them can be a challenge.

Whether you have a single treasured objet d art or a collection of nature finds gathered on a country walk, a family of framed photographs or a set of leatherbound books, a trio of glass candlesticks or an evergrowing pile of bone china plates, here you will find new and exciting ways to present them. In Creative Display, Geraldine James shows how you can create the perfect table setting from mismatched plates and cutlery trawled from a fleamarket, how the simplest set of shelves can be arranged to create a miniature still-life, and how essential storage can become something beautiful in its own right. With a natural talent for seeking out the unusual, Geraldine introduces new ways to upcycle the everyday and

recycle the reclaimed a weathered barn door becomes a striking side table, a stack of magazines reinvents itself as a lamp table, and a gently rusting metal radiator cover finds a new life as a display shelf for a treasured collected of seashells. In Geraldine s hands, the everyday item becomes a work of art and even the most mundane objects can be seen in a new light. In Creative Display you will find new and

unusual ways to turn all your treasures into exciting art forms.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed :( June 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a serious collector with several sizable collections and was wanting a book that could give me new and interesting ways of displaying my treasures. This book did not deliver. There are many pictures of rooms in homes with lots of "stuff" however most are not displays of collections; many are not displays of anything. For example, page 53, a picture of a living room sofa with a tray of drinks on the ottoman and a bowl of fruit on a footstool - is this the author's idea of a display? Sadly there are many photos similar to this. I can still use this book on a coffee table as part of a display :)

3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't really deliver January 16, 2013
Format:Hardcover
The best thing about this book: the paper and some of the fonts. The cover states: INSPIRING IDEAS TO MAKE EVERY SURFACE BEAUTIFUL. Uh, not really. It's not a bad book but no matter how many times the author tries to tell the reader that everything in a specific setting has been done with great purpose, one is forced to say, "I don't think so." Some of the pictures are interesting but some of the rooms look junky and grubby. Putting a couple of drinking glasses and a bowl on a kitchen table is not inspiring in any way at all. The layout is okay but I found many of the displays to be anything but creative. If you can pick the book up on a sale table for a few dollars you might want to look through it but other than that, I don't recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total waste of money August 20, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I looked at the cover of the book I thought it would be great ideas for display. Instead it was page after page of items all together. Very disappointed.
