I always wanted to install a pullup bar and I couldn't because I rent and I don't want to drill holes in the wall. Came across this door gym, bought the deluxe version, and been working out ever since. It's very stable and it doesn't scratch the wall.

Some people don't believe the deluxe package is worth it but I like it because the straps allow me to do a lot of leg lifts and the extension bar is perfect for reverse pullups and for even stretching the back when not on the pullup bar.

If you're an apartment renter, this is the product for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creative Fitness Door Gym, February 8, 2008

Works great! A much more space saving and money saving alternative to the stand up type pull-up stations. The broad reach attachment doesn't really attach, it just sits on top of the pull up handles, which took a little getting used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Door Gym, April 9, 2008

this is a great door gym, it works as advertised. Easy assembly and fits on most doors like it says it does. It's a really good space-saving equipment. I've been using it as a chin up and pull up bar and have noticed improvements in my arms and chest.

The only thing I didn't like about this product is the extra ab loops and broad reach bars, they're pretty useless! Save your money & just buy the door gym without the extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Product, July 8, 2008
This review is from: Creative Fitness Door Gym Deluxe Package (Sports)
I just received this today, and I like it so far. It took only four bolts to put it together, and I'll admit, I was a little afraid of what this would do to my doorway when I hung on it. But, it held my 240 lbs. body just fine for each of my sets. I think this and the ultimate body press (dip stand) go well together as both work the upper body and are easy to store.

The only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is because I'm not sure the deluxe package is worth the money. The wide grip bar just rests on top of the device and I haven't found it to be comfortable. So far, I like the two handles, but if I change my mind I'll update this review. So...I'd definately give the base package five stars. It works great...is easy to hang up (I didn't use the safety tab)and it seems to be very sturdy.

Just make sure the doorway you use is wide enough for the rubber cushions to rest on the trim. If the metal hits the trim, it will leave dents and scrap off paint. No problems however is the cushions hit the trim.

Update: I've now used this for a week and I've gotten use to the Deluxe bar. I usually do three sets with the deluxe bar and two to three with the regular handles of the basic door gym. So, I like the bar from the deluxe package, but I think it is overpriced. My advice is, if you have the disposable income and really like pull ups, buy the deluxe package. If you are on a budget, stick with the basic door gym and place some rags or other padding over the bare rods of the basic door gym to do your wide grip pull-ups.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good item; a few poor points, August 31, 2008

This is a very good item. I was worried about this item, as I read tons of conflicting reports. I can now officially say that this item works great! It fit my door frame fine, it came with a clip for the back, but I found that I didn't need it(I guess if I swung around back and forth, there is a chance that I can knock the back part off the frame).

At first, it felt that the bar was going to come apart(I weigh 180lbs), but it turns out it was all in my head because it did not and I was pleasantly surprised at how something that looks so simple can support my weight.

As for everything else;
- Instruction Manual - really POOR. The assembly was simple enough, but the instruction manual( a double printed piece of paper folded 8 times) did not cover any steps, just had a picture with screws pointed at a few points(nothing about where the washers that came with the item should go)

- Accessories
- Wide grip bar - I guess I expected more than I should have. The Wide bar is just what you see in the pictures, does NOT lock/secure onto the frame, it just sits on top of the padded grips
- Slings - I have mixed feelings - it works well and great, but I getting it to be the right size involved tearing that velcro and retightening it too many times. Seeing that what it is, I think I might have went for the DIY guerrilla approach and used an old towel and sewn some velcro stips.

Overall, great product to own for a pick workout in the middle of the night - the accessories may not add as much value as you would think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Convenient, July 4, 2008
This review is from: Creative Fitness Door Gym Deluxe Package (Sports)
Arrived very quickly, and installation was painless. Installation was very simple, and only involved a few screws using the included mini-wrench. Wide grip bar makes workouts feel much better, as the original bar has only either a very narrow chin up grip, or a grip with palms facing each other. Ab straps actually are pretty useful for doing abs, although I prefer to simply hang onto the bar and work my grip at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, convenient and easy to use/put away, April 18, 2011

I have had this door gym for 18 months and have used it over the same doorway about 400-450 times (I use it almost every day, and several different sets each time). I weigh 175 lbs, and since I'm 72" tall, I have to keep my feet out or knees bent during pull-ups, but I've never worried about it giving way and busting my rear.

I use the armrests for leg lifts, but not as often, and they aren't super comfortable. I also use the door gym placed on the floor for pushups, and this works well and is comfortable. The crossbar is a must if you want to do wide grip or military style pull-ups. the fabric armrests aren't essential, but I do still use them.

This is also perfect for travel, because of the ease of use and the fact that it requires no tools or installation (just rest it on top of doorway for use and take it right out when your done, literally a 5-10 second process to put it up and take it down)

Small complaint: I think I've gotten more than my $$$ worth, but the foam for the grips is wearing out slightly after hundreds of uses, and it leaves black marks on doorway (after many, many uses).

4.0 out of 5 stars Well designed with and exception, November 25, 2010

I rent but wanted a pull-up bar. After researching the various models available I decided on this one. I am 200 lbs. I am overall quite happy with the unit. The materials build materials are high quality, the door pads protect the door frame and the frame hook wont damage dry wall. The assembly documentation is quite bad, but if you have basic building skills you can pretty much figure out how to properly construct the system.

The base unit has two sets of grips which are nicely spaced. One set portrudes toward you so that your palms are toward the sides of your face. The other set put your palms facing toward your chest.

I took one star away because of the extra bar that allows for a wide "palms away from your body" pull up. The idea is certainly nice but the design leaves something to be desired. First the bar simply rests on the main unit. Gravity is the only thing that keeps it attached to the main unit. The resting points are padded and rest on the padded surface of the door system. The result is a squishy feeling pull up motion that doesn't give that positive pull up feel. Another problem is that the additional bar ends up putting your face and chest way to close to the door frame. Lastly the grips on the additional bar are made for much larger hands, I never quite feel like I am able to keep grip. The result is that I am not able to do as many pull ups.

I haven't used the ab harnesses yet. I have tried it as a push up machine on the floor and it seems quite sturdy for that purpose but I still prefer a natural push up over the machine.

Bottom line is that the unit is well made and wont damage doors in a rental apartment which is key. I plan on getting many year of use from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I did buy this pricey gadget, October 20, 2010

Since it's the last day of my account, I've checked all the things I bought with it. And I can't believe I'd spend so much buying a work-out instrument like this. It doesn't mean it's not a good one----it works pretty much just like how it claims to be: fix right on the door pane; holds up my weight without being shaky; Armbands are relatively comfortable. Anyway, no functional problems. But since I've not used any other similar products, I can't tell how good it really is and if it's worth the value. So, think well before you buy it.
