I knew when I ordered this book, I would probably be giving it 5 stars because of who the author is. I don't expect anything less than exceptional from Maggie Price. This really is a book that helps overcome your creative block.

This book is full of everything an artist would want or need to know about the various mediums...acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolors...from impressionistic, realizm, abstract, collage. etc. The explanations and directions for each painting are all easily understood... AND, the wonderful photographs showing and explaining all the step by step directions are well presented.
I don't think there is an instructive note missed in this book.
Denise LaRue Mahlke Demonstrates creating a new painting surface that leaves you without questions. So well explained.
Ann M. Musto demonstrates rescuing a failed painting with a palette knife.
Maggie Price (Author of the book) Demonstrates how to do 10-minute studies, plus much, much more.
Ray Hassard tells about painting in a new location.
Marc Hanson demonstrates in oil about changing the tools you usually use, etc... and shows how he used a reference photo.
Diane Artz Furlong demonstrates painting from your imagination...and Steve Fleming demonstrates painting watercolor from memory.
Dot Courson demonstrates using one reference photo for many paintings...and also using a limited palette in oil.
Bill Canright demonstrates tackling a difficult subject using a black surface.
Stephanie Bidrsall demonstrates exploring color, laying in darks with a wash of alcohol.
Room does not permit me to mention every wonderful artist in this book.
Catherine Anderson shows how to experiment with unfamiliar colors.

Loved the multi-step approach (each step is shown) and personal narration of each artist in this book. Despite the difference of subject matter, style, and media, each artist shares with the reader an in-depth look at the creative process. You can leaf through quickly to see what strikes your eye, as each page is similarly laid out (for example: concept, starting process, materials, or final art). I liked that each artist has a real passion about each project chosen. There is a personal touch to this... it's not just about subject matter or 'how-to'. I especially enjoyed reading about why each artist chose the project and how they felt about the process of making the art. There is a small bio section on each artist to learn more (26 artists: 2 projects each = 52 projects), so it's almost like taking a mini workshop with each artist. It is truly about discovery and creativity. Very nice job Maggie Price!

It was'nt as inspiring as I thought it would be. I wouldn't consider it to be a "go to " book when I'm looking for ideas. The pictures are small and the colors seem kind of muted or something I would pass by without much attention. There are "some" good lessons in this book that I liked .

This book would probably be appreciated by painters, but not for artists of different media. It supposedly is for everyone, but I found all the exercises required paint in some form or other. If you are a painter go for it, if not, then keep looking for a different book to help with your creative block/expression.

I saw this advertised written by Maggie Price who I had lots of respect for. I love her art work and presumed this was strictly instruction from her. Even though the other artists are good, I was expecting all Maggie Price work.

This book is excellent because of the different artists take on creative blocks and just keeping it fresh. I felt like I had been at a seminar with each artists and learned some of their top tips! Excellent book!

These books are ok, and worth the lower price I paid for the kindle. I do not think I would buy the paper version. Since I often buy on kindle first and buy paper if I think I could use as a daily reference,
