Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Quilters of all skill levels and aficionados of every technique are united in their love of fabric. Every quilter has a fabric stash that continues to grow. Yet the choices can become overwhelming, and even experienced quilters may sometimes be stymied when planning the next quilt. This superb guide solves the problem. Whether you like piecework or appliqué, subtle colors or wild, traditional or contemporary, you'll find specific solutions as well as general inspiration in these cleanly designed, very readable pages.

Chapters cover various quilting approaches--decorator's, fabric lover's, single-color, print-heavy, and many more--plus topics like color value, adding dimension, and painting your own fabric. The ideas are presented basically as large tip boxes, each supported by a clear color photo. So, for instance, when we read about choosing accent color, we see a quilt block that effectively demonstrates its use; when we ponder how to find a color scheme to complement a room, we learn to begin with a chosen object (in this case, an heirloom porcelain dish) and build a palette around it. The margins are full of helpful hints (if you're a hand quilter, for example, take some needles along to the fabric store to see how a particular material handles), and scattered throughout is "the quilter's problem solver": a page full of practical advice on everything from cataloging your fabric collection to starting a round robin quilt with friends. Beginners will find this guide invaluable; more accomplished quilters may already know much of the information but can still benefit from the fresh perspectives offered here. --Amy Handy

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK!!!!!, September 15, 2005

Beautiful pictures, solid information for quilters. Dependable information. Quilting is to Art what playing the cello is to playing the trumpet. Very, very different. This book is about the use of color in quilting. I like the chapter on one color quilts and two color quilts. This sort of thing is never found in Art books. Strongly reccomend this book for your reference shelf.
