3.0 out of 5 stars Neat...but Lacking an essential ingredient, January 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Creative Guide To Knitted Lace (Paperback)
I agree that this is a really neat book, and well worth the cost. You should have a basic foundation in knitting before you pick it up, however.

What I love about this book is that there are several small sized, unintimidating projects for those new to lace knitting--as well as increasingly difficult projects as your experience grows.

But a very serious issue with this book is that there are NO GAUGES. None. Not even some to get you steering on the right path. This is a major obstacle for the beginning lace knitter. But as long as you are okay with that, then this book will be a joy in your knitting library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book to start lace knitting, and will keep you going, March 4, 2001
This review is from: A Creative Guide To Knitted Lace (Paperback)
This book has a section on the basics--such as how to read charted patterns, how do do edges on lace, and has a stitch pattern library for stitches and edgings. So you can learn about knitting lace and then use this book afterwards to design your own things. So you won't outgrow this book. There is also some knitting history included in the book, for fun reading

There are designs for edgings and cloths. Edgings are great added to towels (makes a great gift--take a handtowel and sew on a handknitted lace edging or sew a lace insertion, which is knitted with two straight edges instead of one scalloped one and sew it onto the towel.) They are also a good learning tool for lace knitting, as they repeat a lot, and if you goof up on cotton edging yarn, you can just rip it out and begin again.

The author is also a designer of cross-stitch patterns. She has patterns for cross-stitch (no knitting) at her site ....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Lace knitting, February 5, 2002
This review is from: A Creative Guide To Knitted Lace (Paperback)
This is a great book to help you get started in lace knitting if you already know how to knit. There are some really nice projects to do and it is explained well. Also, there are written and charted instructions.
