4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable Headphones February 24, 2012
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I have had quite a few headphones over the last few years and these are the first $100 ones I have owned. They are also are the first I have had with the powered noise canceling feature.

These headphones are very comfortable with a lot of cushioning. The ear cups are very plush and cancel out a lot of noise all by themselves. This was the first thing I noticed when I put them on.

The headphones come with a separate cord that plugs into the headphone unit. I like this feature as it means that if the cord gets damaged I can easily replace it. Often I end up damaging headphones when I forget they are on and get out of my chair and the cord gets pulled taut with a snap. Every now and then the wiring will get loose and ruin the listening experience. Should that happen with this set, I can simply replace the cord.

The cord has a single button that allows basic remote control on ipod and some other mp3 players. So you can change tracks with a double click or pause and start with a single click. Handy if, like me, you don't like having to get the phone out and start fiddling when you're busy outdoors.

The headphones come with single 3.5mm jack for mic and headphones combined into a single plug which can be plugged into an adaptor with dual plugs. This adaptor is supposed to be for plugging into airplanes with the plugs spaced apart. They just happen to be spaced exactly right for the front panel on my computer.

Now to the noise canceling. I'm not quite sure how this is supposed to work. It isn't explained. I assumed that it would somehow remove exterior noises. The noise canceling required a AAA battery to be inserted and the switch turned on. With it enabled the first thing I noticed was all the sounds were much crisper and the dynamic range increased, music sounded much more closer more like my home entertainment system. Turn it off and the sound is somewheat dull and lacking in the high tones. At first I wasn't convinced that much sound was being cancelled so I did some tests by listening to music whilst my other half typed fairly noisily on the computer next to me. Lets just say that I had to look over check that they were typing when noise cancelling was on so it does work though you can still hear a little noise. I also tried it in passive mode without any sound just to see how it works. In passive mode it doesn't remove people talking on the phone next to you. Without cancelling there is a lot more noise and the person talking sounds very close; with it turned on they are fainter but clearer and less boomy while ambient sounds like computer fans and the HVAC system disappear. So it does reduce sound.

Overall I like the headphones. They are very comfortable and adjustable, which means they can fit a large or small head. The cups rotate a full 90 degrees so they can lie flat for easy packing and transport. The headphones come with a nice drawstring bag made of a fairly heavy fabric which should keep the headphones away from grime in your gym bag.

The sound quality is good with no distortion but disappointing if you don't have some bass boost or an equalizer because it does sound a little flat without some help. Raising the bass a little does make for a very good sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars great form factor, noise canceling not so great May 14, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
These are the first noise canceling headphones I've ever used. They feel great on my ears, they fold flat so they fit in my laptop bag, they have a detachable audio cable, and they can be used to talk on the phone. The audio quality is great when noise canceling is turned on, but when it's off the sound quality suffers, even in a quiet room. My subjective assessment is that the background noise (airplane, washing machine, etc) is reduced maybe by 40-50%. Because these began malfunctioning about 5 weeks after I bought them, I tried some noise canceling ear buds from Audio-Technica. The noise canceling on them is far better, reducing background noise by about 80% by my subjective estimate. And this is not simply due to the form factor. When the ear buds are wedged firmly in my ears, there is a huge difference in noise when I turn on the noise canceling. I used these on a KC-135 military aircraft, where engine and outside airflow noise is very, very loud, and it reduced it all to a minor hiss, allowing me to hear the air crew's speech much more clearly, not to mention my music and movies. Bottom line is that these Creative headphones are nice, but there appears to be much better noise canceling available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love'em February 5, 2013

Ok I don't normally do write ups but I must on these. Here's what I like. 1) The price, its reasonable for what you get. 2) The long cable, I'm a big guy and its long enough to reach my hip pocket and has more to spare. 3) Noise canceling for my train commute so I don't need to overhear the teenager ssues and stupid remarks. 4) It works with my iphone, event though it does not have the nifty stop/start button like iphone ear buds but I'll deal with that. 5) They work with google hangouts and other video software i use for work in both my macMini and MacBook Pro. The mic (according to folks I talk with) sounds great. 6) Sound when playing music from pandora is great.

Hope this helps and no I am not paid (or unpaid) endorser. Enjoy!
