A Wonderful Resource,
This review is from: More Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth (Paperback)
This book is perfect for anyone working with at-risk children and adolescents. As a child therapist, I found that the activities helped to engage even children who are highly reluctant to engage in therapy. There are a wide variety of activities in the book that range in age from preschool to teenager and address just about every treatment issue you could think of. Most important, the activities are fun for the kids while also being therapeutic. I would highly recommend this book-- it's worth every penny.

Immediately put to use!,

This is a book that a therapist can put to use immediately. It is extemely well-organized:
-chapters divided by topics -a chart indicating activities for each stage of therapy, modality and age -clear directions included with each activity Many of the pages are reproducible, and most of the activities require materials that are easy to find. Best of all, the activities are clearly therapeutic! My only complaint (and it's minor so I'm not removing any stars) is that several activities involve candy. Since I work with elementary students in a district that has implemented the federal nutrition guidelines, I cannot give students candy nor can I give any food as a reward. Some of those activities can be "tweaked" so that I give stickers instead. However, that's a very minor point, and overall, the book is a fabulous resource! Don't miss Paper Dolls and Paper Airplanes, a similar book co-authored by Lowenstein, that contains extensive activities for pre-schoolers, elementary children and teens who have been sexually abused.

Excellent! Highly reccomended,
This review is from: More Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth (Paperback)
This is a resource you will go back to again and again. Lots of helpful techniques, ways to adapt common chidhood games...well worth the money if you counsel elementary school kids. Content probably too young for kids over 13.

My go-to activity book,
This review is from: More Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth (Paperback)
Creative Interventions for Troubled Children & Youth, and MORE Creative Interventions for Troubled Children & Youth were first two books that I purchased four years ago to start my career as a school social worker, and they are still my go-to books when I am in need of finding a quick activity with students. There are several activities that I go back to time and time again when working with individuals or groups. I find that most of them work with the best with middle elementary students, 3rd-6th grade, but have modified them for all ages. The book is written in a format that is easy to understand and quick to carry out. There is typically a one-page activity explanation and then a one page reproducible. Activities are hands-on and engaging, which really gets the children excited and involved, and also include session goals and discussion possibilities. Liana Lowenstein's books are amazing, and I particularly utilize this one regularly. Great techniques, simple to implement, and kids love them. There are several that I use on an ongoing basis w/certain clients. I have never been disappointed with her books.

This book has many ideas for useful activities to use with children, as individuals, in small groups or in families. The section with assessment activities was especially good. There is a good reference section at the end of the book.

Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth is a valuable resource for clinicians! As a clinician working with children (elementary through high school age), I am able to use Ms. Lowenstein's book to come up with group and individual activities that are meaningful and fun for children. I look forward to acquiring all of Ms. Lowenstein's books!

Wow! What a perfect resource for any counselors working with children, families and groups. There are so many helpful and interactive, engaging activities in this book! Some of the interventions included are Color the Circle; Letting the Cat out of the Bag (the kids I work with love this activity!); Road Rage; Turning Over a New Leaf; The Gift Bag; and the list of Check-Out Activities at the end of the book! Many activities to choose from--this book is a must have for the clinicians library! My copy sits right on my desk--I don't see it making it to the bookshelf any time soon :) Other books on the topic I recommend are:
