The Sound Blaster Live! MP3+ is Live!Ware-upgradable so you don't need to replace your soundcard to keep up with the latest standards. Just download software to your reprogrammable EMU10K1 processor to get the latest features and functions, including codecs, LAVA! scenes, and new Environmental Audio effects.
The board offers the EMU10K1 audio processor and Environmental Audio (an "effects" generator that tweaks audio to make you feel you're listening in a concert hall, for example). The card offers true 16-bit full-duplex operation, with a mixer for combining audio sources (such as CD audio and a microphone). The volume control lets you adjust bass and treble, and you can adjust the balance in both front and rear speakers.
What sets the board apart from its competition is the rich set of software. In addition to the Creative Digital Audio Center, the board is bundled with a trial version of IBM's ViaVoice (for voice-to-text translation), Mixman (for mixing sounds), CakewalkExpress Gold (for creating musical files), and Sound Forge (for editing WAV files) software. The card supports LAVA! (Live Audio Visual Animation), a standard Creative Labs is trying to popularize for Internet music files. LAVA! Authors use templates to combine music, logos, album art, and text - think 3D images synched to audio as a new form of music video on your desktop. It's too soon to know if this form will take off - it's a poor man's MTV - but if it does, you'll be ready.
As with other boards in the Sound Blaster line I've worked with, installation and setup was easy thanks to the well-illustrated user guide.
How's it sound? I played the audio through SoundWorks Digital speakers, a pair of 8-watt black satellite-sized speakers plus an amplified 22-watt subwoofer, a real bargain at $99.95. (Its ability to reproduce sound from any audio signal source with a headphone jack - and handle two such sources - is certainly welcome.) The result was very pleasing to my ears.
We're replacing the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! on our WinList with the Sound Blaster Live MP3+ to keep up with the times and the technology. Plus, at just $99.95, it's some $100 less than the former WinList winner. If you're looking to add high quality sound to your system, this is definitely a great value. Add a pair of SoundWorks Digital speakers and you've got an even better arrangement.

Just a Sound Blaster Live with extra software,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creative Labs CT4760M Sound Blaster Live! MP3+ (Personal Computers)
The Sound Blaster Live +MP3 is a great card but it is just the standard Sound Blaster Live with extra bundled software. I was expecting some type of additional hardware acceleration for mp3 playback and encoding but the price still isn't bad for the great sound quality. Some of the software is pretty useless, however I found the encoding software to be great with encoding support up to 360 Kb/s and full CDDB support. The software also goes nicely with my Nomad as it makes it easy to increase the volume of a quiet recording or add special effects easily.

EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE,
This review is from: Creative Labs CT4760M Sound Blaster Live! MP3+ (Personal Computers)
The difference between the Live! MP3+ and the Live! X-Gamer is the bundled software. If you want a great sound card that supports 4 speaker setups, then this is the one for you. I recommend downloading LiveWare 3.0 if you get this card. It makes audio adjustments for different purposes. If you want to listen to a CD then just click "Listen to CD" or if you want to play an enviromental audio game(such as Half-Life: Opposing Force) then just click "Play EAX game". It is a very good program that really brings out the best in the Live! series of sound cards. By the way, with the Live! series of sound cards you will also notice an increase in frame rates in first person 3D games where there is alot of sound. It' just a GREAT sound card. Everybody I know that has upgraded or built a new system is exceptionally impressed with this card.

Most Bang For The Buck!,
By Dave Lyons (Arden, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creative Labs CT4760M Sound Blaster Live! MP3+ (Personal Computers)
I bought the Soundblaster Live! to replace an onboard sound card that was Direct-Sound "compatible", but not a true Direct Sound card. An audio program that I used frequently did not run reliably with the old sound card. Installing the Soundblaster Live!, made all of the difference. I found the installation process to be simple (be sure to disable your old sound card under "System" in Control Panel before installing the Soundblaster) and the documentation to be adequate. The included software bundle was an added bonus. The audio program I use takes advantage of the extra speaker outputs on the Soundblaster Live! and uses them for a cue channel. I use my PC to record and edit sound files for radio and TV production and I really like the features of the Soundblaster which include a digital output and the rear speaker output as well as the audio quality it produces. I would highly recommend it for anyone with a home recording studio and believe it's a good value.
