The 10 GB Nomad Jukebox stores approximately 160 hours of CD-quality audio (equivalent to over 220 albums) or up to 4,300 hours of spoken-word content. It supports file formats such as MP3, WAV, and WMA, and comes preloaded with classical music and audiobook content.
Unlike other hard drive-based solutions, the Nomad Jukebox offers an onboard, real-time digital signal processor for superior audio playback and customization. It includes special-effects algorithms that alter the way your music sounds, making it seem as if you are listening in a concert hall, in a stone room, or in a forest. You can also slow and speed the playback of files, a feature that is particularly helpful if you are running through the minutes of a meeting you just recorded or are listening to other spoken-word content.

I know some folks had trouble using this thing, but in my opinion a dunken monkey could hook it up. I have a Mac and a PC; it worked flawlessly with both. On the Mac it even appears in iTunes, so you simply drag files to it.I have owned and used a HipDisk, RAM MP3 players (2), and MP3 CD Players (2). The sound quality on this thing is better than any of them (I am a professional audio engineer and picky). I think the CODEC is simply better (with free firmware updates it'll always improve). There's even a parametric EQ which lets you tailor Bass/Midrange/Treble to your tastes, but it actually sounds good flat. There's 2 line outs and a line in so you can record to the unit. As a musician, I have recorded song ideas, etc. with ease. I have over 1,600 songs in it at 192 kbs, which the flexible and intuitive interface makes easy to pick and choose from. Besides using playlists, you can listen to a certain genre, album or artist. At work I was using my Mac to play MP3s, but that slowed it down a little. Now I just plug the Jukebox into my PC, control it with the onscreen interface and rock out. At the gym with it on random play I have a "radio station" with over 1,600 of my favorite tunes. It's bulkier than the iPod, but has twice the drive space, costs $150.00 less and works with Mac/PC. The new Jukebox III looks even better (with 20 GB and firewire), but they were out of stock and I am leaving to India for a month and needed tunes (I would have had to take a gazillion CDs!). Bottom line: I would buy another in a second! p.s. I have never bothered to review anything except this and TiVo. Two of the greatest inventions ever.

I've been telling everybody about my new Nomad Jukebox. It's the most fun I've had with a new gadget in a long time! I can't remember the last time I've been so pleased with everything a product does. Every time I use it, I discover something else about it. Do a web search on the Nomad JB and you'll find several websites run by other fans telling you how to get the most out of it. You can even upgrade the hard drive, up to 40GB! (Strictly third-party of course...Creative doesn't support this).Criticisms: no belt clip (buy a CD player pouch); somewhat awkward file management (search the web for third-party software to fix that); wimpy max volume (no good for lawn-mowing, plane-riding, or other noisy backgrounds). Also, the batteries drop to an indicated 75% or so charge level just a short time after unplugging the power supply, although having said that, they seem to play for hours and hours just the same. Finally, the documentation isn't much, but really, the Nomad is so easy to use, you don't need a lot of instructions. All of this is offset by knowing that you can carry your entire music collection in the palm of your hand, with space to spare, and you may never have to buy a CD player ever again. If Creative can just improve the file management interface and the software, it'll have a perfect product.

I have used this for less than a year and I think I threw my money away. Batteries last 45 minutes tops right now. It has locked on me countless times, so while driving, I have to manage to remove the batteries, place them again and wait for the library to show up (this can take as long as 3 minutes!). File transfer is slow (no surprise, its USB) and lately I have been transferring 200 songs only to have it display 32, and there is nothing wrong with these songs. I am very dissatisfied with this product, hopefully this review will help someone in not buying this overpriced worthless mp3 player from here.
