Great Digital Camera + Webcam for an Incredible Price!!, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Creative Labs PC Cam 880 Webcam and Digital Camera (Personal Computers)
This all new high end webcam + digital camera from Creative is truly the best product out there for anyone who is looking to get a webcam and take pictures (like using a digital camera). It is so easy to setup and use. Initially, I just wanted to get a webcam to chat with my family overseas and then I came across this new breed of cameras called "PC-CAMs". They are dual purpose in serving as a webcam at your home PC computer and as a digital camera to snap pictures on the go! The PC-CAM 880 was released only in June 2003 and is a breakthrough in combining the features of high-end digital still cameras with the versatility of a webcam. A few reasons why I love this new little toy: * It has a great 2.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor (can produce pictures upto 3.0 Megapixel through software interpolation) - it sure beats any conventional auto focus camera. * It has a built in 16 MB memory to store upto 112 images of 800x600 resolution. I can never run out of memory! I can't think of a place where I will have to shoot over 100 pictures before downloading them to my laptop! It also comes with an SD/MMC expansion slot. When you can plug in a 128MB or 256MB card sky is the limit! * It comes with a full color LCD display at the back (just like high end digital cameras) with a easy to control menu and a multi-selector dial. * It even has a video output and comes with a TV output cable to display pictures and live video on a TV or record to a VCR * You can record live video upto 76 secs without being tied to a computer! In way it serves as a digital camcorder without the audio. * It is so easy to setup and use as a webcam and produce great quality live video. Moving pictures from this digital camera to my Windows 2000 laptop was walk in the park. * A whole bunch of software to help you view, play and have fun with your pictures and videos! I recommed this camera to anyone who is starting out with digital photography and needs a webcam to chat. I haven't found any other product come anywhere near this PC-CAM 880's list of features...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Creative Labs PC Cam 880 Webcam and Digital Camera (Personal Computers)
(I'm actually 18 yrs old) This camera is just not a great leap in quaility over my PC-Cam 600 even though it is suppose to display twice the resolution of the outdated 600. The LCD is nice but the interface is not very good. The LCD functions aren't labeled on the camera and can be confusing. The quality of the photos is pretty good if the lighting and settings are dialed in. The amount of control given to the user makes this less of a point and shoot affair than the pc-cam 600. It's more like mess with settings, point, see if image looks okay, try different settings, shoot. If a first time buyer of a PC-Cam I would say it's a good camera, but if you are planning to upgrade from another PC-Cam or other dual web/digital camera then try it out first somewhere and make your decision. Also, the fact that it's a webcam AND digital camera is a plus; if a digital camera is all you want then a dedicated digital camera will probably be better. Hope this helps.

Simply Disappointed, August 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Creative Labs PC Cam 880 Webcam and Digital Camera (Personal Computers)
It is true that this camera has a lot of features, but you would expect that the more advanced products would perform better than the old ones. I own a PC-CAM 750 that I enjoyed using a lot. When the 880 came out I bought it on July 2nd 2003. I didn't use it until I went on vacation in August, what a mistake I made. I should have tried it sooner, so I can return it quickly. As a web cam, it requires a lot of light coming from behind it, and it doesn't like fluorescent light. Taking videos indoors requires a lot of light too. I am making these comments in comparison with how the PC-CAM 750 performs, the 880 is a step down in quality in my opinion.
