When I think of Sherrill Kahn, two things come to mind: don't miss out, and five star author. Sherrill holds nothing back. You get the full package, and boy that is one package. If you only buy one mixed media book this year, it should be this. The front cover is wonderful and it does not disappoint inside. This is not one of those books where the publisher picks the only good piece of work and sticks it on the front cover. All of Sherrill's work is amazing. What this book has is many techniques that you will find so useful in your mixed media projects. Inspiration by the bucket-load, easy to follow instructions, superb photographs, new techniques, new ways of doing things, fabulous colorwork, incredible composition, beautiful, inspiring pages with great galleries and so much more. Sherrill Kahn has taught nationally and internationally for stores, conferences, guilds, and educational institutions. She owns Impress Me, a rubber-stamp company; has produced six fabric lines for Robert Kaufman Fabrics; and has written numerous magazine articles. Sherrill loves to experiment with every possible media.

This book features how to stamp and stitch fabric to make mixed media artworks. The author shows how to use computers, printers, stamps, glue batik (something new to me and very welcome compared to wax batik), and other embellishments to create deep and beautiful works on fabric. You will learn not only the batik and stamping technique, but see where sewing free form fits in, as well as how to create beautiful backgrounds.

The works could be stretched and hung as artwork, but they also could be used to make incredible placemats, room screens, lampshades or other objects.

The demonstration of a mask from Benin was my favorite work in the book but there is so much "eye candy" in here, as well as new techniques and ideas, that even if you don't do mixed media (I mainly do watercolor with occasional mixed media additions) you will want to try many of these ideas for yourself.
