This book features how to stamp and stitch fabric to make mixed media artworks. The author shows how to use computers, printers, stamps, glue batik (something new to me and very welcome compared to wax batik), and other embellishments to create deep and beautiful works on fabric. You will learn not only the batik and stamping technique, but see where sewing free form fits in, as well as how to create beautiful backgrounds.

The works could be stretched and hung as artwork, but they also could be used to make incredible placemats, room screens, lampshades or other objects.

The demonstration of a mask from Benin was my favorite work in the book but there is so much "eye candy" in here, as well as new techniques and ideas, that even if you don't do mixed media (I mainly do watercolor with occasional mixed media additions) you will want to try many of these ideas for yourself.

When I think of Sherrill Kahn, two things come to mind - don't miss out, and five star author. Sherrill holds nothing back, you get the full package, and boy that is one package. If you only buy one mixed media book this year, it should be this. The front cover is wonderful and it does not disappoint inside. This is not one of those books where the publisher picks the only good piece of work and sticks it on the front cover. All of Sherrill's work is amazing. What this book has is many techniques that you will find so useful in your mixed media projects. Inspiration by the bucket-load, easy to follow instructions, superb photographs, new techniques, new ways of doing things, fabulous colour work, incredible composition, beautiful inspiring pages with great galleries and so much more. Highly recommended for all creative artists.

I have other books of Sherrill's that I like but I returned this one. It did not have much new information in it that I could use. I thought too much of it was on fabric collage. I also thought that her designs were too similar and the photos did not look very clear. I have many mixed media books that have better information. The book was not very long and was not useful to me.

Creative Mixed Media offers fine insights on how to paint, stitch, stamp and embellish all on the same project. 16 creative techniques with paper and fabric offer artists a range of ideas, including using ordinary items such as baby wipes and hair gel to creative advantage. There's a gallery of projects for each technique, making for an inspiring, wonderful collection of creative ideas perfect for any arts or crafts collection.

Colorful pictures and lots of technique information fill this book. Pictures show finished examples of collage art, as well as colorful pictures showing actual techniques. Highly recommend book.

This book is magical because it instantly awakened the creative person that seemed to be sleeping. It is so fun and easy to just have ideas left and right without getting a headache. I take my hat off to you "Sherrill Kahn". Anymore books by you I want, want, want. Thankyou very much Sherrill.

Are you into wild and different fabrics? Then this book will give you all the techniques you need to create your own wild ones by using paint, stitch, stamp and embellishments.

There are lots of galleries for you to view which will give you ideas for creating your own different fabric. While this is too "out there" for my tastes, there are those artists who enjoy the wild results this type of fabric creation results in. Of course you could always tone down the different medias, thus ending with a more subtle look.

Directions and graphics walk you through how to make fabric using the above techniques. So, look over the three pages of tools and supplies and begin your making the fabric you have always dreamed of.

This book has some interesting new techniques and ideas, and Ms. Kahn's work is stunning, but it really helped me in the fabric arts area, not mixed media. There are ideas and techniques that can be used for mixed media, but there's not much on making sure the media are compatible and will last for more than a month or two. This is a crucial part of learning mixed media, so that your best work doesn't crumble or crack or degrade a month after you complete it, or you sell it (you'll have a very grumpy buyer)! It's not a first-line mixed media book for beginners, but for fabric artists and mixed media artists who'd like to learn a new trick or two, I recommend it.
